7-seater SHOWDOWN: BMW X7 vs. Lincoln Navigator — Who'd You Rather?

7-seater SHOWDOWN: BMW X7 vs. Lincoln Navigator — Who'd You Rather?
I know, I know. I did a showdown consisting of the newly launched BMW X7 just a couple days ago. But, that was against the Land Rover Range Rover LWB and that was based on looks alone.

This time I want to do something a touch different.

This time I want the all-new Lincoln Navigator and BMW X7 to square off in the interwebz octagon. If it sounds ridiculous, that's because it is. Rather than make it a contest based solely in their beauty, I want this to be a bit more well rounded.

I want you to tell me which you'd rather take home.

Of course that encompasses functionality, reliability, looks and price. We're talking about the whole enchilada, baby.

Having just driven the all-new Lincoln Navigator, I have to say it is one very impressive product. The X7, while it looks good on the surface, is going to have to bring its "A" game. No question, Spies.

That said, we want to know: WHO'D you rather bring home? The all-new Lincoln Navigator or the all-new BMW X7?

Get a Toyota Land Cruiser in top trim and be totally ignored and anonymous. Being beige is good sometimes.

And drive a truck designed and engineered in the early 90s and occasionally updated. #asinine

I like the look of the Land Cruiser but Darringer is right that thing is ancient

The current 200 series Land Cruiser was launched in 2008 after a 5 year development cycle. It was a clean sheet with a carry over / modified engine. It does not date back to the 90's or any other decade. And vs the BMW or the Navigator it will still be the most reliable. Your house would also be the last one to be robbed as nobody would think you have any money. Below the radar....

I'm not sorrry @Canadiancomments, but the 2008 Land Cruiser was a mildly warmed over makeover of the previous Land Cruiser. It was far from all new. The J200 was largely a J100 with restyling which takes it back to 1998 and that model was itself a makeover of the J80 of 1990. Granted, it was a significant update, but it was NOT all new. Anyone who really knows Land Cruisers knows this. Used Land Cruisers are big money, so knowing the market is essential if you are going to buy and flip one.

The Toyota UZ V8, used in the Lexus LX and Land Cruiser, was developed in 1989.

BMW
Now if you said X7 vs Aviator....LINCOLN!

The new Navigator is far better than the old one, but I'd still rather have an Escalade with a stick axle.

Easily the Navigator. The X7 looks ok but not close to the luxury of the Navigator.

Makes no sense...How is the Navigator much more luxurious?

So when you drove the X7, it wasn't luxurious enough? The fit and finish wasn't up to par? The handling left something to be desired? Seriously, why do people even comment when they haven't been within a hundred miles to test drive a vehicle and actually offer a reasonable opinion?

Navigator. If you're going to go big SUV, you may as well go true big SUV.

These two are not even comparable vehicles

The Lincoln is a Full Frame Truck based real SUV while the BMW is a crossover. Even if they were the same size - which they are not - they are not really in the same class.

THe Lincoln probably is best compared to the Cadillac Escalade - which will be replaced this year so I would wait to see the new one - which will have an independent rear suspension.

The BMW - is a big crossover - and right now neither Ford nor GM have a real comparable vehicle - which would be the size of a Buick Enclave - but more luxurious. Cadillac is planning to introduce a competitor in size (Based on the Enclave/Traverse platform) - but we do not know if it will compete in power.

Since I have a different view of these 4x4 vehicles than most - If I were buying one - for 4x4 use - it would be the truck based one - which is more heavy duty and likely will last FOR ME much longer. However - I prefer a Mini-van for transporting people (ANd likely would buy a Ford Transit if I wanted to move a LOT of people) - and the occasional use where the Van can put a 4x8 piece of plywood inside. I am not an hardcore off-roader - so the compromises of a crossover make no sense to get 4 wheel drive. In addition - I have found that if I cannot get there in the Winter in my cars - especially the Front WHeel Drive Mini-van with Snow tires in the winter - the snow will likely keep most away too - even with an SUV. And to buy a very luxurious S Crossover or SUV - for utility use - also seems out of place. I probably would go with a GMC Denali long wheel base - which is luxurious enough - far less expensive - and of better utility.

95% of buyers are not considering these factors, Tom.

They see a vehicle, they get into the vehicle and they determine based on drive/experience.

Remember, most buyers don't know/care if their vehicle is FWD or RWD.

How is this even a question? Why would anyone pick the Navigator over the new X7? The better question is X7 or GLS.

The Navigator is a lot more reliable than an Audi.

For sure the Navigator. The third row is important to me, so planning for a space that is ok for 2 large adults to sit in the third row is a Navigator hallmark. I have an Escalade too, but my Navigator is so far superior to the Cadillac that it's not funny. As for the X7, I'm a Bimmer guy, but the X7 looks like a Mercedes GLK from the side. I'm sick of BMW styling, so I say Navigator.
