A RUGGED, Four-door Coupe Ford Mustang Is Coming — WHAT Would You Name It? The Mustang __________ ?
The team at Ford is working very hard right now to deliver a product portfolio that's going to wow consumers and the investor community alike. That's because its shares are in the can, at the moment.

But, also, keep in mind that the Blue Oval was happy earlier in 2018 to axe most of its lineup with exception of the Mustang. Given the nameplate's heritage, it's no surprise. There's a tremendous amount of brand equity in the Mustang name.

One all-new vehicle that's been rumored about now for a bit is a four-door coupe Mustang.

This, frankly, doesn't strike us as a surprise. People want practicality with a slice of panache on the side. Although there's one little catch with this "practical" Mustang. It's going to take a more rugged approach. Think of what Volvo's done with its Cross Country line, what Subaru has done with the Forester and what Subaru has done with the Crosstrek.

According to our sources, it will live within the Mustang family but, obviously, it's going to need an additional name to add onto the Mustang brand. What would YOU call this forward-thinking, four-door coupe Mustang?

The Ford Mustang _________ .

Fill in the blank, Spies!

Are you seeking, inspiration?

A Mustang should always be a 2 door car with rear wheel drive.

A Dodge Charger should always be a 2 door car with rear wheel drive. Think 1969 styling. What they have out now is a Fu*k UP. Can you say 4 door Mustang ... No thank You

Why?

Being "stuck" on some old brand name only limits the possibilities of future design.

I'd call it Stallion. Not "Mustang Stallion"

Rumor has it that Maverick will be the baby Bronco.

Ford must be following Cadillac's business model with the cars they have in the pipeline.

Can someone at Ford wake up?

Welcome to the growing Mustang family at Ford. Expect at least 4 vehicles this 4-door coupe suv is the BEV. You will also get a "4-Door Sorts Car".
Think of what Porsche has done with extending 911 styling thru-out their vehicles... Why can't Ford do same with Mustang.
If u r stuck on 2-door only Mustang... Time to wake up n grow up... Times r changing...
New 2021 Mustangs based on New CD6 platform with hybrid n AWD too...!

The obvious problem FORD has - is that the did not invest into Platforms that they could use to make all sorts of vehicles - and when their old platforms ran their course - they were unable to just "refresh" the now too small cars for another run.

The Mustang Platform once was used (Or the other way around) for a Larger Thunderbird - and IF I were Ford -I would produce both 2 and 4 door version of a Larger Thunderbird and smaller Mustang. Based on the economics of scale - this should hold Ford for another round before they NEED to make platforms a priority.

I believe if you do some research. You'll find the current Mustang uses it's own platform, not shared by another Ford product. Their are many people who would like a Mustang Sports Coupe with V8 performance, Awd and that can handle a minimum of four adults. I love the Mustang, but not as a daily driver. I found it sets in my garage during the winter. Payments and insurance continue while my Escape Awd which is an excellant Suv becomes my daily driver. Even in the summer the Mustang gets parked during driving trips because room is required to handle luggage and passengers. Bring on the Mustang Sports Coupe. If it looks good like what I'm seeing in the site's picture, offers performance, Awd and technology. It will sell. I'm sure there are many Mustang lovers like myself that would consider this vehicle. I would even consider owning the GT and a Sports Coupe. Porsche has made it work. So can Ford.

From CNN: The Mustang, on the other hand, shares its platform with no other car. To get anything close to the economies of scale needed to make this work, Ford builds an incredible array of Mustangs. Buyers can get anything from a $26,000 Mustang with a 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine to a $56,000 526 horsepower
Shelby GT350

The Mustang platform could be used for future RWD and Awd Ford vehicles. Take a close look at the Mustang. Nowhere will you find the word Mustang on the car's exterior. Why? Because everyone in the world that knows cars know what a mustang is by just looking at it. It's Ford's Halo car that has it's own platform that can give Ford an opportunity to use this platform to build some special vehicles. A mustang Sports couple/Suv would be a great addition while the 2 door sedan will continue. It would be a solid move by Ford which currently needs home runs, not just a bunch of singles.

A 4-door Mustang is a mistake. I would go the SUV route like Porsche did. The Cayenne does huge numbers vs the Panamera. They could do a smaller CUV too. Follow the same recipe and reap the profits. GM should be doing the same with the Corvette making it a family of vehicles.

I do not see it as a 4 Door Mustang

It is simply using the current Mustang Platform for another vehicle - as they once did with the Thunderbird/Mustang. THey DID ask what you would name it - and obviously it would have to be something other than Mustang too.

Thunderbird is also a name that has history as a 2 Door Large Coupe - but not as a 4 Door - although it was the same size as a then Mid-Size One below full size) sedan. I would produce both sizes - in both 2 and 4 door versions - and give them all unique names - Ford really does not have the Platforms to produce other RWD Sedans.

I agree with TomM.

Why can't Ford make a sporty 4-door sedan-based CUV (a la Infiniti FX basics) but maybe name the model something other than Mustang.

"Stallion" is a really good start.

It is a BEV CUV/SUV. Its front end is in one of the new "Built Ford Proud" commercials, it has a Pony surround lit emblem on the front. Its code name was Mach 1, but it does not have a name yet.

A mustang must evolve in order to live. We have Porsche with 4 door models. Corvette has been rumors.. Now corvette is having a mid engine model. I think that corvette will be its own division or Pontiac will be back and have the Vette and a 4 door vette based sports car and even a vette suv as well.

I would call the mustang 4 door the Mustang Active Cross

A Mustang should always be a 2 door car with rear wheel drive. I would not "whore out" the name.

I'd name it: WTF (Why This Ford?)

First, don't bastardize the Mustang name and legacy with this

Second, are buyers demanding a sporty-driving, off-roady, 4-door non-SUV coupe?

Third, WTF.

Lincoln should get one too and name it the Mark IV

Based on the photo in the article it will be called the Mustang Raptor. I don't like the idea but that's what Ford is.

The "raptor" name is already ensconced in Ford as an Equipment level for various vehicles - so I do not believe it would be logical for them to use that name.

There are a number of "horse" related names that could be used - maybe Buckskin - or Palomino - or Stallion or Equine - but I would suggest RODEO as a good choice. Of course - if one would be allowed a little more freedom- Pegasus would also work
