The Cost Of Going Green? New EU Emission Rules Decimate Auto Sales
he new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) emissions evaluation is taking a toll on European automakers while the companies adjust to the more stringent rules. In the latest tally of deliveries in the European Union, volume dropped a massive 23.5 percent year-over-year in Septemeber. Last year, registrations totaled 1,427,013 vehicles, versus 1,091,220 in the same month in 2018. If it's any consolation, total deliveries have still increased by 2.5 percent from January to September.

The WLTP rules came into effect on September. The new regulations caused registrations to jump 31.2 percent in August due to people trying to get a new vehicle before the changes began.

re "New EU Emission Rules Decimate Auto Sales" -- To translate this into accurate, less sensationalized, less "slanted" language: Cars that cannot pass Europe's stricter emissions tests cannot be certified for sale.

Please note that these newer, stricter anti-pollution standards were declared YEARS ago. Automakers had lots of time to prepare for them, so it's not like anyone was blind-sided at the last minute. Some diesels are being hard-hit because manufacturers often don't seem interested in investing in making truly clean diesel engines, when paying lip-service to being "green" was much more profitable for them (I'm looking at you, Volkswagen Audi Group and Mercedes).

And not by coincidence, VW is one of the loudest complainers about this, as their ICE vehicles are getting hit hard, and failing emissions certification under the new, stricter rules. So it's not like people have chosen to buy fewer cars. It's because some automakers have chosen not to be diligent about lowering their emissions to legal levels!

Meanwhile, back in The State, the EPA continue to repeal anti-pollution laws, it is working aggressively to reverse CAFE fuel economy requirements (thereby encouraging higher fuel consumption and more toxic pollution), and get this: The US Government is evangelizing the miracle of "clean" coal :-/ Please turn your clocks back to The Industrial Revolution :-(

I'm sure this post will not sit well with the anti-science, anti-facts, "Go Coal" "Rightsies" amongst us.

They actually CAN meet the emission standards - the cost of meeting them - however - is causing a loss of business.

I guess GM lucked out by selling OPEL - they sell few cars in Europe now and do not have to meet those standards yet. Ford still sells quite a few cars in Europe - and FCA sells very few cars anywhere. (Mainly suvs Crossovers)

However - to date I have yet to see a new car powered by coal - so clean or not - it is not an issue

This is just more evidence that the Socialists are idiots. You do not destroy business and industry because they generate your cash flow.

Hey moron coal can burn clean as was demonstrated by OPG (Ontario Power Generation) at its Nanicoke Coal Power Plant that our moronic Liberal asshole government shut down anyways to pretend like we are all green and shit. Epic financial disaster that has made Ontario go from the cheapest electricity to the most expensive in NA in 14 years of Libtard incompetence that has decimated and gutted our once powerhouse manufacturing sector.

Coal by itself is dirty but when you add in a secondary fuel source like say corn husks you raise the BTU and get a more complete burn and low or no emissions and is more green than solar when you factor in the solar cell waste stream that can't be recycled. Sorry to burst your little bubble with this inconvenient truth...
