Battle Of The Big Boys: Audi Q8 vs Porsche Cayenne vs Range Rover Sport - Which One For You?

There are so many buyers splashing out on high-end SUVs that Audi has launched a new flagship, the Q8. Not content with the Q7’s presence in this profitable sector of the new-car market, the German manufacturer has introduced this more style-focused model to cater for drivers who don’t need the utility of a seven-seater.

However, there are a number of other alternatives vying for your attention and cash, two of which we’ve lined up against Audi’s latest offering here.

Cayenne, without a doubt. Outstanding fit and finish. Classic, non-trendy styling. Great (low) defect and failure numbers. Luxurious. They handle awesomely! Configured right, they're comfy (with air suspension). And according to my data modeling so far, the Cayenne Hybrid (PHEV) will get lower emissions, lower fuel consumption, and lower fuel cost per mile as compared to my economical and efficient Q5 diesel.

The Cayenne's down-side: Pricey as hell to get, and to pay for routine maintenance.

Added note:

You DON'T get get a Cayenne Hybrid to save money. You get one because you were going to get the mid-trim-level Cayenne S anyway, and because you like better fuel economy and/or lower emissions as a side-interest.

If your priorities are lowest emissions and/or best fuel economy possible, then there are obviously lots of other more suitable vehicles that excel in those areas compared to the Cayenne Hybrid.

None of the Above

If I want a sports car - I get a sports car. A crossover masquerading as a sports car will never actually be one - because of the higher center of gravity.

IF I want an SUV - I get a real truck based SUV - that actually can handle large/heavy loads of cargo and people AND tow as well. A Crossover may have the seats - but it will not be able to tow that trailer too.

WHen I want to move people - the Mini-van is still the most logical vehicle to do it - Unless you have LOTS of people - at which time a Transit/Sprinter is in line.

And when I wanted a Luxury Vehicle -I bought a real one - a Mercedes S600 V-12 - and now have a Mercedes S650 Maybach V-12. Sorry - but no matter how they try - the manufacturers will never approach the Silky Smoothness of the Maybach - which I put second only to the twice as Expensive Rolls Phantom - but only by a Hair.

This remains a case unfortunately where the mentioned Crossovers simply cannot be ALL things and still excel at each. ANd I have the ability to afford several cars/Vans/Trucks. For those who cannot - ......

Yawn! The same irrelevant minivan and Maybach V12 BS. Stay on the topic: Q8 vs. Cayenne vs. RR Sport.

Hey Tom, I mentioned this in another posting but being such a liberal how do you justify owning a car like that... seems incredibly hypocritical. The new one gets what 13mpg and the older one, probably 11? Both weigh over 5000lbs... spews how much more toxins than the average conservative? Cost was what $200K? I'd say you have zero credibility to tell anyone about the evils of capitalism or conservatives are creeps. Seems like typical liberal tripe of "do as I say, not as I do." I personally congratulate you for your success, as would all conservatives, “Bravo Capitalism!!” but your general comments vs your consumption are hypocritical to say the least.

Why is the Range Rover Sport here? It is unreliable and it sort of sucks.

Then it is a tie between the Q8 and the Cayenne since they are the same car anyway.

There! Done!

This article sucks and unless the Q8 is only available in TDI form, they should have put a gasoline version up there to compare. The Q8 looks better in and out than the current offerings by Porsche and RR in my opinion.
