Ford Claims New Ranger Will NOT Affect F-150 Sales - What Do You Think?

According to Ford, bringing the Ranger back to North America will by no means impact sales in a significant manner for their full-size pickup truck, the F-150.

In fact, Ford’s president of global operations, Joe Hinrichs, stated that “The F-150’s gotten bigger over time and more expensive. We believe there’s room now to slot the Ranger in very nicely in the showroom.” The first Rangers should become available in January of next year.

It will all depend on the pricing. If the Ranger is 90% of an F150, why buy the smaller one? But if they can keep the price spread larger (i.e. Ranger measurably less expensive), then they might be right.

Size and price matter to people who really use a truck as a truck. Depending on your need and your budget deciding factor.

IF the new Ranger - which is not new to begin with - ends up a steel based Smaller truck that could weigh as much as the F-150 - then it is unlikely to get measurably better fuel mileage. ANd if that is the case - it will still set some - as the ":newer to the US" vehicle - but maybe not what they think.

If Aluminum is so great then why didn't ford use it in the production of this truck? Could it be the Import Tariffs that was the decisive factor?

I could see the Ranger infringing on the F150 XL level in that a buyer will get more truck for the price on the Ranger. The F150 XLT would be a toss up.

For people that buy trucks as a life style vehicle ... maybe ... as stated above, it depends on the price spread or lack there of.

I need an 8 foot bed on my pick up truck, so I won't even look at a mid size truck.

I'm looking forward to Jed's Ranger which could be here before the end of the year.

Not everyone can afford the $50,000 to $65,000 F150.
The cheap Ranger will provide a smaller more manageable and affordable option for truck buyers.
