First and foremost a car that talks to you at all speeds thru the steering, dampening and ride creating a feeling of one with the machine. This requires that all driver systems work seamless and together....acceleration, braking, traction control, etc. Second is styling...make it a "gotta have it design." Last is sufficient horsepower to handle all situations from an engine with character and sound. A unified product of quality and style. No outrageous elements but no apparent weaknesses.

Isn’t Genesis the Halo car?

Supposed to be, but they have so facked (sic) it up with dealers and investors in dealers that they have an "issue". Sales of Genesis have gone down largely because dealers got screwed over by Hyundai's yes-we-are-no-we aren't-yes-we are stance on Genesis and dealers retaliating. It's not like they were flying off the lots to begin with, so dealers in some cases have refused allotment.

Seems the attraction here sould be something completely different.. I have no idea what that would be? The pic's of a rally car are non-starters, IMO. Any Halo would need to be very special, significant and a game changer as why buy it when you can have something else with better pedigree? Mechanically, stylistically and build quality all being exemplary, one still has other options besides a Hyundai or a Genesis. Could this be interesting... I'm not holding my breath...

It is truly a waste of both time and money for a producer of mass market econo-boxes to go the Halo route. Toyota with its massive marketing prowess - has often failed with that one - Hyundai just does not have the "prestige" needed to sell a higher end expensive car - Genesis sales are proof.

A Hyundai "Mustang" and "Corvette" would be a good move.

I say build a better Toyota MR2. Not sure that would really qualify as a halo car though. I have to say xjug1987a is probably right on with his analysis. It is hard and maybe nonsensical for Hyundai to make a halo car. They have no real history to pull from and they don’t have a real reputation for anything interesting, They make good standard auto appliances.

A Hyundai M4 competitor. There are plenty enough 4 wheel shoe box SUV's so Hyundai should build a very high performance sedan and coupe.

No they don't have the pedigree of the Euro makes. However they do have Albert Bierman formally of BMW M division engineering its cars now. I'll take less pedigree and a lower price any day of the week. Saw some videos of the new Veloster N. Seems to be very close to a Civic Type R in performance and handling but coming in under 30 grand including destination. I think Hyundai/Kia is becoming a player.

Hyundai has other issue to deal with before diving into niche cars.
