How Does Tesla Dominate The Luxury Segment Without Advertising?

How Does Tesla Dominate The Luxury Segment Without Advertising?
We have provided a multitude of articles about the incredible success of Tesla Model 3 sales this year. Deliveries got off to a rough start and lasted for many months when the car was first released. Production bottlenecks meant that only a handful of vehicles made their way into owners’ driveways by the end of 2017. Tesla has since resolved most of the issues and is now delivering Model 3 sedans at an epic rate.

While it’s incredible to see the progress Tesla has made with Model 3 production and deliveries, there’s a whole lot more to the story that makes it significantly compelling. Let’s not forget that Tesla doesn’t advertise. The automaker has no traditional dealerships and there are still several states in which it is not even allowed to sell its cars. Tesla doesn’t really stock inventory cars. Additionally, Tesla offers no discounts on its vehicles and accepts no endorsements. Remember, electric cars are not popular, sedans don’t sell in the U.S., and Tesla vehicles are not cheap.

Pretty simple. They took all of the money that would typically go to sales commissions and marketing, and gave it to R&D and service. If you have a product people love, sales and marketing are unnecessary.

If you are familiar with the tech world, a company called JIRA did the exact same thing (no salespeople, almost no marketing).

Before you guys rag on Tesla, don't forget the bailouts that the government had to give to both GM and Chrysler, let's be fair now.

Tesla is not a Luxury Top tier premium sedan - it is - at best - a second tier premium - and it cannot dominate a segment to which it is not in. At some point - the money that the Agents are getting will simply no be enough for them to continue this NONSENSE.

However - Agent 009 continues to prove him(her.it)self completely worthless

Who cares what segments Tesla cars are in. They just mop the floors with the other guys in their paths. Just ask the afflicted brands how they feel about lost sales.

Thanks for the link on subsidizes. It clearly is a sum for three businesses and similar to what other companies qualify for.

Nobody has given a credible answer to the question of why the Tesla line outsells some luxury brands. Like Mercedes Benz. As they don't discount, don't have dealer stock, don't advertise and don't pay for endorsements. And none of their products are cheap. Far from it. The only answer is they offer a more appealing product to wealthy consumers who have a modern 2018 sense of style and find the Tesla value proposition the most compelling of any automaker, and any price.

The Model S outsells the 7 Series and S Class combined with a similar price point.

Who needs to advertise when you have a pot smoking CEO accusing a brave noble soldier of being a pedophile, creating multi billion securities fraud, littering space with junk, non-stop PR pumps, new product launches when you can't produce what is in your order bank and non-stop product schlepping. Musk is the modern day PT Barnum.

Secondly most Tesla owners are out right FAKE greeny assholes whom only bought the car for bragging rights and to snub there noses at us ICErs and Ricers. For the record I almost bought a P90 years ago so I could drive in the stupid HOV lanes of Toronto and not be a smug dick because I was a Teslati -I don't need a Tesla to be a smug dick

Tesla = Luxury Segment?? While they give consumers another great option, I would never compare a Tesla to S-Class, etc. All these clickbait articles are hilarious!

Tesla is not a luxury car. It's an expensive mid-market vehicle with fit and finish issues that would raise alarms at Kia.

A high price tag does not necessarily equate with luxury.

I don't understand why people hate Tesla so much. My perception is that people don't hate Tesla itself, but rather Tesla-lovers. I don't see any rationalism behind that hatred.

Let's face it. It is a marvellous piece of engineering AND manufacturing. Cars are made and designed in USA. Tesla created thousands of jobs and it is starting to make money. How do you build a successful car company that produces thousands of units per month without a gigantic amount of cash? It is simply not possible. Most of that money stayed in the US and went to good paying jobs.

Tesla is also forcing sustainable transportation. I understand the passion for pickup trucks and big SUV, but the reality is that we are in a world with finite resources and we burn though them like drug addicts. Tesla is not the perfect solution, but it is a step in the right direction. I visited LA a month ago and from there I went to Northern Canada. The difference in air quality was disturbing. I couldn't really notice how bad it was until I landed in a clean air environnement. I was in shock. It is a bit like the boiling frog fable. We are boiling ourselves without even noticing.

Some might not like Elon Musk attitude. It is understandable, but Tesla is not Elon. Tesla is also thousands of proud American caring about leaving a better world for our kids.

My next car might be a Tesla or it might not but in any case, I wish them and to all of you, a prosperous Tesla.

Did you just make that up? They have the lowest cost and highest density batteries. Watch any of the independent videos ripping apart the 2170 cells, engineers and electricians are blown away at the density, quality, and balance of the modules.

Four words = Fulfilling the Order Backlog

Fulfilling an order backlog is not the same as selling the product or moving the metal day-in and day-out.

One word- Ferrari. You have to wait 2 years for a new car. They too are fulfilling the order backlog.
