QUICK! The New Feature NO Other Car On EARTH Has That Is Now On Tesla's.

Sometimes here at Auto Spies, we teach you new things about autos and sometimes you, our readers teach US.

Tonight, as I was perusing our site and one of our Spies (San Jose Driver) posted this little gem about Tesla in our cool feature article.

"The real coolest thing is they just launched a software update this weekend that enabled "nav on autopilot." The car will take freeway exits for you now and overtake slow cars autonomously, something no other consumer car can do today.

It also now supports a "traditional" key instead of just the phone key and the NFC card. (Traditional is in quotes because the key looks like a hotwheels car and is anatomically correct, trunk opens the trunk).

Also part of the release--they made some UI updates based on user feedback from a release that was only 3 weeks ago. That's how fast their dev team operates which is pretty insane even by SaaS software standards. You can pin the music app and put the camera app anywhere on the screen."

Being the autonomous active cruise afficianado that I am I have to say this impresses me MOST on Tesla's.

Honestly, I NEVER want another car that doesn't have these kind of features, when I WANT them. In other words, when i want to drive the car allows me but when i know I'm in traffic or on a long drive and I don't want to be exhausted on arrival, the car can take over.

Are features like these MUST HAVES for you now or are you still not sold or moved by these type of options?

They don't know what they are doing, keep new features under development and introduce them with the model five years out.??

That's the beauty of Tesla cars - they improve over time.

I don't have the need for Autopilot at this time, but it's good to know that I can activate it anytime I want in the future. I would consider it with FSD as a package when FSD is ready and proven.

People are recognizing the continuing improvements via software upgrade and that is what is separating Tesla from the other manufacturers in the consumers eyes. A coworker of mine who bought a model 3 constantly talks about this aspect. I’m not a huge fan of their product, but no doubt they are disrupting the market.

Conversely, if they are constantly tinkering with the software, did they not get it right the first time?

Evis - that is the beauty of the whole car industry - ALL cars have improved over time - or have fallen by the wayside - this is not a TEsla exclusive.

My 1955 Buick had manual Brakes and manual Steering - manual windows and door locks - and an AM mono radio. Just look at he improvements in brakes systems that came before tesla - from Power assist - to Anti-Lock - traction control. In fact - almost NONE of the autonomous system components in cars came before TEsla - who simply used software to use them together - there were sensors for adaptive Cruise control Long before for instance.

Is this where it makes farting noises when it's most inappropriate?

Rumor has it that ball licking is involved. I have no idea what that means. I ask my buddy Kenny about it and he gave me a strange look.

I thought Tesla already had their own website. When did this become an extension?
A software update that allows improved autopilot? Wow!! Next the will make cars with interior door panels that match! (look it up online. A gentleman received his model 3 and the right rear door panel did not match the other three. Is there an update for this?)

So how many other cars are getting OTE updates on a monthly basis right now? Not very many.

MDarringer, you should only ask that question of Tesla fanboys.

There's a very good reason why these features don't appear on other cars. Considering the tendency of the Autopilot to behave nothing like an autopilot (Tesla will blame the driver, no matter what)- Tesla claims the driver MUST keep firm hand on the wheel. Why anyone would trust Tesla's proven faulty software is beyond me. Be prepared for the Autopilot's favorite move - accelerating to 65MPH into a parked fire truck - it's done that 3 times. Only those who don't know software trust software. Written by pimply faced dweebs who've never driven a car.

You have no idea what you're talking about... and yes the driver needs to always be ready to take control and is liable for any accident. It is not a Level 4 system yet.

Even with your hands on the wheel, it actually does a better job at lane keeping and changing lanes than you or I can. It has gotten dramatically better with the last release, so anything you read about or tested firsthand before October is obsolete. It's using a new neural net and all 8 cameras for the first time... it works pretty damn well on most freeways and major roads.

Hasn't happened since the V9 update.

It happened today with a stationary car on the freeway :/ Not clear what version of AP it was, just that its a Model S. At least it wasn't a fire truck.

SanJoseDriver you're preaching to those who only hear the negatives of Tesla and are blind to the same issues that are experienced by ICE owners.
1) catching fire - been happening to ICE cars for decades but now it's ONLY Teslas that do it
2) rear-ending other cars or hitting dividers - regardless of technology the driver should be paying attention. How many accidents happen daily that are NOT Tesla related?
3) bumpers falling off - how many instances of this happened? So then let's talk recalls (I won't include Takata) The Model S has 1 recall, Audi has 6, BMW has 12, Lexus has 8 and MB has 9. (source: Edmunds)

People here put so much effort in hating on Tesla it's serious ridiculous to read.
If you've never driven or been in one, do that 1st then give us your honest opinion of your likes and dislikes.
