The Audi A1 and BMW 1-Series expose the lie that is Luxury automobiles. The more ordinary and cheap these brands get, the easier it is to see the smoke and mirrors. The raping of the badge-snob consumer continues.

this car is priced below the a3, lower than a 1 series, mercedes a class, a1= mini,vw beetle rival.

I would too. I would even take the Golf (Rabbit) over the 1 series. All of the reviews have as well.

That goes without saying. The 1 Series is the stupidest car in its class.

I would rather have a 1 series, it drives very well, I liked it when i tested the 130i but also the 116i is a good car. I dont like the A3, and i dont like the way it drives.
We from Europe are lukcy to drive the smaller cars, a small car does not mean bad car. The mini is a funny car to drive to and its suddenly a mini...:)

Will it come with a grill for steaks and a case of A1 in the trunk? ;)

What has Audi ever done to make you think they can match the steering feel or sporty FWD dynamics of the Mini S?

My A3, for one. The DSG transmission is far and away the best auto transmission I've ever had. I drove my sister in-law's Cooper S Works, and it's peppy, but it's not as smooth, nor as quick, as the A3. The little Audi stops on a dime, and is beautiful on its feet. The only drawback is that if someone wants a luxury ride, don't look here- it gets harsh over bumps. But that's a minor complaint for such a sweet drivers car. Great things come in small packages.

These cars are popular in Europe. Small compact cars with the people's favorite domestic brands. They still manage to keep their brand image very premium and upscale. It's just to us people from the rest of the world looking in that gets the notion of the brand being degraded by producing these models.

Mercedes has the A & B class, very compact, and IMO very uneccesary. Yet Mercedes still maintains it's class, luxury, and prestigue. Audi came out with the A3, it does not make their quality any worse, and their loyal consumers/fans still want an Audi. BMW has lower models than the 3-series as well, not affected at all by those markets in the general appearance of the brand. It's all in the head and it's all up to the marketing teams to market each and every one of their vehicles to appeal to the segment they wish to conquer.

with cars like this wannabe mini, how can audi improve on it's luxury image in america in becoming a tier 1 brand, in instead of being rated as ninth ,the Audi R8 and the Audi A1, am I wrong audi fans.

It's not going to be sold in NA, obviously.

It really is simple.

Offer more models across more segments, and assuming they are not crap cars, you will increase your yearly sales figures.

Did you think Audi was going to be the top manufacturer by 2015 by selling a few hundred R8's?

Looks okay though IMO - although I'm still not sold on Audi's now trademark gaping mouth grille.

They're not bringing it to America, like iown1 said. It would spoil their image here, yes- but not in Europe, where you see 318i's and Mercedes A-Classes every day.

Only if they bring it here, which I doubt. Although I saw an S3 at the Audi Forum in NYC today. No doubt their putting feelers out to see how many people are interested in it. I don't get it myself.

Me neither. A3 2.0T is more than fast enough- 0-60 in 6.2 seconds is a bargain for $25K. That is, if you can find a base model.

And if you have a need for speed, it's pretty easy to tune the 2.0T to over 300hp, blasting any other A3 (or S3) off the road.

In Europe (well at least Holland and Germany), Mercedes and Audi have serverly damaged their prestige. Taxi E Class CDI which are a dime a dozen here (think yellow cab in the states) has a bad reputation here in Holland. The interior is cloth, its a manual and its noisy. It is regarded as a ho-hum car and thus has taken the e class image as a ho hum car too. In the States if you see an e class your gonna assume hes/shes rich. Not here.

Regarding the a-class, everyone here has one. EVERYONE. Again cloth, plastic, noisy and manual. All of this has taken a toll on their image. However this has helped European sales because now their is a lot of bare bone luxury cars. Only BMW has escaped this due to poor sales of their bare bone units.

If a1 is ever released in the states it will destroy Audis image. I mean its a POLO for gods sake!

audi a1? wat the hell, thats gonna be like sooo small! if the a3 is small then i wonder how small this one is. LOL
but that picture is the future audi tt hatchback, not an A1, but im sure everyone knows that already.
