Just remember the ill-fated Harley-relative, Buell Motorcycles. Buell was a sports bike powered by a Harley-Davidson air-cooled V-twin engine.

Also recall the now-discontinued Harley-Davidson V-Rod. Its liquid-cooled V-twin engine was co-designed by Porsche. It was a noteworthy bike, but it was condemned by Harley-haters for being a Harley, and by Harley-lovers for not being Harley enough.

Harley-Davidson has an exceptionally loyal (and aging) following, who loves a certain kind of product. And this ain't it.
