Toyota To Become First Japanese Firm To Log ¥2-Trillion Operating Profit

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Toyota Motor projects a 17% increase in consolidated operating profit to about ¥2.2 trillion (US$18.6 billion) for the fiscal year through March 2007 on brisk overseas sales of fuel-efficient cars as well as the weaker yen.

This would mark the first time that a Japanese company has posted a ¥2-trillion operating profit. Toyota also expects to set a company record for the seventh straight year.

Toyota forecasts a 9% sales increase to about ¥23 trillion (US$195 billion). While automobile demand is slumping in some parts of Asia, such as Indonesia and Taiwan, the sales volume in the US is expected to post double-digit gains on strong sales of its mainline Camry and other models.

Initially, Toyota had forecast an operating profit of 1.9 trillion yen this fiscal year. It had assumed a foreign exchange rate of 110 yen to the dollar for the year, but the actual rate has averaged around 115 yen.

The firm’s net profit is seen rising 6% to about 1.45 trillion yen, which would be its fifth consecutive annual record.

Every time there is an article about Toyota having record sales/profit you guys get a boner.
Unless you work for Toyota and get a piece of that pie, I don't see why you get so excited.

I'm a huge MB fan, but could care less about how many cars they sell. Do you think I want my neighbor to drive the same car as me? What would be the point?

As long as MB stays in business, keeps innovating and making the World's Best cars I'm happy.

Why do the ToyLex fans de-boost me for no reason? I simply said I had stock in Audi!!!

And by the way, whoever said Toyota's stock is worth the most of any brand right now is dead wrong... last time I checked, one share of Toyota stock was worth about one hundred euros, with my Audi stock coming in at three hundred euros per share. They may be selling well, but they're a mass brand. More exclusive companies have more valuable stock.

I think that Honda just simply makes much better cars than Toyota. They're equal in reliability, quality, feature-for-feature and price. Where it ends is style and perfrmance. Honda cars combine the reliability of a Toyota with the fun-to-drive-ness of a VW, creating the perfect economy car. I don't see why Toyota as a brand is so desirable when Honda is there.

honda is a good company too. what it "deserves" most is the sympathy accorded a scrappy underdog.

it DOES have excellent engineering.

Your talking about Toyota like it has not payed it's dues to be where it's at today...The first company from Japan to go head to head with the big three in the U.S,first company to produce hybrid vehicle in mass production,and tons of money spent on R&D to make high quality engines!!!I give Honda credit,they make good lawn mowers and generators!!

toyota was importing and selling cars in this country (late 1950s) when honda could only offer motorcycles (which changed the whole global bike industry).

the 1960s toyotas were frumpy looking, but SOLIDLY built. as were the nissans/datsuns of that era.

the first honda cars sold here had all of 600cc. good for their size, but not comparable to toyotas and datsuns. they did outclass the first subarus, which had only 360cc motors.

(S4)Looks like you need to get your facts straight,because the Corolla came out in 1966,and the Honda Civic came out in 1973.Last I remember is that the Corolla is the world's best selling car in it's class!!Got any more negative and false info to say about Toyota??

the first vehicles toyota sold here, btw, were LAND CRUISERS!

but they were TOO FAR ahead of their time then. only a niche market, until the SUV craze.

some guy arranged with toyota and other sponsers to drive a LC around the world. sometime in the '60s. he made it to within JUST a few 100 miles of completion, when he ran out of gas. while priming the carb, the engine caught fire!

if not for that, it would've been BIG PUBLICITY to have driven all the way around the planet back then. LCs did eventually build a great reputation. just took a little longer.
