RUMOR MILL: 2020 C8 Mid-Engine Corvette May Come With Eye Watering Six Digit Price Tag

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 is probably the most anticipated model in the nameplate’s 55-year history.

That’s because the C8 marks the first time in more than half a century that the Vette switches from a front-engine to a mid-ship layout.

So it will be a very different beast compared to the previous generations and the price will certainly reflect that. How expensive will the Corvette C8 be, then? Well, former Corvette engineers estimated a starting price between $70,000 and $100,000.

Fake news. I have an insider at Chevy who says base level C8 will be under $100K and priced reasonably above base level C7. Over time four engine versions will be rolled out with the overhead cam dual turbo monster being the top model well over $100K.

Indeed. The source is far from reliable. They will also be happy to tell you about the 2020 Chevelle and the 2020 Torino if you ask nicely enough.

A $170K Corvette would be perfectly fine if this were a Corvette Zora ZR1 with a Zora Z06 at $130k under it, a Zora at $100K under that, a Stingray Z06 at $90K under the Zora, and a Stingray at $60K.

@MD- Is it even worth dragging out old names like Chevelle and Torino in 2020? Will the resonate with any of the buying public?

@canadiancomments are you really so dense that you missed the point? We were talking about fake news. Can't be bothered to read? Carscoops is notoriously unreliable.

@MD I missed the joke. And yes Carscoops is not a go-to site for accurate information. But I did think you might be serious about those 2020 models... Not every move the big 3 does is as smart as the Jeep Scrambler.

You mean the Gladiator?

@MD I prefer the Scrambler name but apparently it got out voted.

We are talking 'bout a Chevy here folks. There is NOT going to be any $170,000 stinking Chevy.
The bow tie boys know full well that Corvette buyers are hard working people. The target base price for the new Vette should be no more than $79,000. If it is any more costly, Chevy will be cutting their throats.

There is a GM key FOB picture floating around online (The Drive) with the controls for a forward and rear trunk as well as convertible top among the buttons. Obviously a mid engine vehicle. The backside is a Cadillac logo. Could that be the pricey one?

Agree. Chevy is not going to double the price and completely abandon their customer base.

MD, does this mean no 2020 Torino?

why do people talk about mid engine like its only available in super exotics ? if porsche has them in 50-90k boxsters and caymans, theres no reason GM cant do it for the same 60k
