What's Today's MUST Have In-car Technology? What Are You Simply NOT Buying A New Car Without?
These days there's more technology than ever before. Ranging from massaging chairs to semi-autonomous driving capabilities, it's pretty amazing to see how far vehicles have come.

And just think, air bags really became standard equipment in the 1990s.

While technology has advanced vehicles' safety as well as comfort, it seems pretty clear to me it's become much more relied upon. Take, for example, back up cameras. Once you have one, I don't think you'll ever want to go without one.

That said, it got me thinking: WHICH pieces of in-car technology, today, have reshaped your driving experience? In other words: What are YOU not ordering a new car without, going forward?

The Spies want to know what's becoming standard issue gear in 2019...

If that is what your must haves are, why buy a car period? Simply Uber everywhere you’ll save a lot of money, no monthly, no insurance, no maintenance etc.

If that what SanJoseDriver wants, that's his choice. Why so much hate for his choice/opinion?

Because when you are on a site dedicated to cars and the ppl who love them, with the exception of occasional Kardashian/political trash, it’s kind of wack for your “must have” feature being the one feature that disconnects you from the car.

While yes I enjoy my S 560 taking over from time to time, part of the joy of getting behind the wheel for any car enthusiast is feeling the way a car connects to the road and essentially becomes an extension of you.

However there’s many ppl who enjoy autonomous driving everyday and even sleep or eat in the processs. It’s called the train or bus....take one

Just because the options are there doesn't mean I will use them 100% of the time. I like driving, but if you're sitting in highway traffic for an hour, that is a ridiculous waste of time without these features.

Exactly which means it’s not a “must have” feature for u, it’s a conditional feature based on your traffic conditions, so we can give u a second chance, wats a “must have” feature for you? Mine 4matic or Awd, love the additional grip off the line and confidence no matter the weather lol

Plus u picked the one feature giving Tesla the worst PR besides his tweets

I don't think I can live without AP in traffic anymore (or long freeway rides), would absolutely never buy a future car for myself without that unless I moved to a place with 0 traffic or freeways. Also have AWD and I was hoping I wouldn't notice the difference as much as I do... that will add another $4-6k to all future cars I purchase. If I had to pick AWD or AP thought, I would definitely go AP.

Nonsense Matt - WHy Buy a TVR if you do not buy a car for technology?
Get A Mazda Miata with a 4 Cylinder instead. You certainly do not buy a TVR for its interior room or luggage space!

YOu ignore that TECHNOLOGY means lots of things - that have nothing to do with electronics - or only partially. A big honkin Ford V-8 is certainly technology - Suspension Technology allowed cars to handle well in a variety of situations long before electronics had anything to do with it. They have used technology to play with the construction of tires for decades.

And while we may consider them items that are now part of all cars - Anti-lock brakes for instance - are something I would suspect every reader here would want on their daily rider. Would you buy a new street car without them?

I have found that a rear-view camera to be a great step forward - it is not much - but it makes parking that much simpler - especially in areas where parallel parking in still dominant.

I think what you meant to say is that you do not buy cars for their gadgets - like media systems.

Tell me dimwitted TommyBoy...what modern technology is on a TVR? NONE. The Griffith is rather pedestrian as to technology.

The context of this post is OBVIOUSLY referring to cutting edge technologies like autopilot assistance, EV propulsion, and so on. It is not talking about fuel-injection on a Ford V8.

Once again, you attempt to throw a punch and once again you are #impotent in being able to connect.

Backup camera, although I believe they are required pretty soon. Auto Rear Braking has already saved me once, so as much as I consider myself a good and safe driver, some of the new safety features are quite good.

HUD, If you aren't even going to give us a proper dash, put info on a HUD...I'm talking to YOU TESLA and you too MINI! Android AUTO because I hate APPLE because they think just because they make it, they can charge anything that they want and even plan obsolescence and build it into their past products under the guise of updates. Also, I don't think that charging me for something that the other manufactures give away for free, is ridiculous. I'm talking to you BMW. And while I'm on the subject, WTF am I paying for mapping software when its already included in android AUTO for free? I'm talking to all other manufactures... WTF?

Android Auto and Apple Carplay are the navigation system on the Bolt (I use Android). It's a great setup and allows the vehicle to use either one. Awesome setup and have been impressed over these past (nearly) two years in its navigation projected onto the Bolt's center screen, via Google maps, and all voice commanded via Android Auto!
