Tesla Readies Roll Out Of Track Mode For Model 3 Performance

Before even launching the Model 3 Performance, Tesla teased an upcoming ‘Track Mode’ feature that would enable owners to get more out of the cars in a racing/track environment.

Now Tesla is starting to roll out a new update with ‘Track Mode’ for the Model 3 Performance, and it explains exactly how it works. Over the last few months, Tesla has been slowly trickling down information to owners through exclusive test drives with some media.

So they pick a woman who was a Tesla board member to become the Chairwoman overseeing Elon. Prior to being selected Musk put her on the board and was paying her $5 million a year to attend 12 meetings a year. Can she really be impartial and reign Musk in when appropriate? Why didn't the SEC require someone more independent and not beholding to Musk?

Cue the footage of Tesla's on fire. Hopefully nobody dies.

Question - can 'Autopilot' be used on the track?

Also - IDEA! How cool would it be if a customer could interface his/her Xbox via wifi to a Model 3 and pilot it around a track. Now THAT would be an awesome invention! The ultimate rich person's toy - a full size remote controlled car with a terrified driver (who can't drive!) behind the wheel. The could sit in the track's viewing tower with a big screen TV and an XBOX and watch their car go around the track! Cool!

Ahhhh yes, nothing more exciting than hearing the sound of tires going around the track, no engine, no exhaust note, just silence and the occasional squealing tires

With the new Track Mode update, Model 3 is almost two seconds a lap faster than a Giulia around the Streets of Willow. Faster than a 458 Italia. Amazing!

No thank you. I have no desire to own or drive a Tesla golf cart.

I'm no fan of electric race cars, though fast and likely much less expensive to maintain. Its the sound of the engine and exhaust of gas powered race cars that gets my adrenaline pumping. Cannot imagine going and enjoying the Indy 500 or NHRA National in complete silence.

I got the software update the day before yesterday, and tried it out last night on a mini AX run (ie empty company parking lot). Improvement was very noticeable with the car dancing freely and steering feel tighter. Didn't get a smokey burnout but got a lot of tire squealing, and some Friday giggle.

I had Led Zeppelin blasting and didn't miss the engine noise.

The car still needs a serious set of tire to make it truly remarkable. But that's the easy part.

Funny story: a 3P with the new Track Mode placed second in a race then was DQ'ed for not using gasoline - a complaint raised by the loser.

It did set lap record time in the process. And previously at MT, it became the fastest sedan at Street of Willows - gasoline or not.

Time's changed, watch out for those Teslas.

Then the battery died and it was sidelined for hours...
