A Ridealong In A Prototype BMW M8 Seems PROMISING — Are YOU Interested Or NO Way?

...No, the real question hanging over the M8 Coupe up until now has been its ability to match this speed with the sort of handling enthusiasts will cherish. However, after witnessing its outstanding body control, ability to change direction with all the deft precision of much smaller and lighter car and ease at which it can be coaxed in lurid oversteer it is clear it is not just another high priced grand tourer seeking to be regarded as a sports car but - and feel free to take this with a grain of salt at this stage - a true sportscar in its very own right.

Like that of the M5, the M8 Coupe’s four-wheel drive system is programmed to send up to 100 per cent of drive to the rear wheels in M Dynamic mode. There’s also a torque vectoring function built into the rear differential to apportion that drive to the wheel with the most grip. The result is car that provides all the security of a four-wheel drive car when you want it and, at the press of a button, all the tail-happy traits of a powerful rear-wheel drive sportscar when the conditions allow.

Right now it appears to offer an even broader range of dynamic traits than even the M5. The proof, of course, will have to wait until we get to drive the M8 Coupe for ourselves next year. But for now, the early signs are certainly encouraging, even if a quick physics lesson suggests they shouldn’t be.

Bmw's larger cars have largely been real misses - for a while now. At some point they have to return to their roots - and realize that they are a small sports sedan/crossover company - and return those cars back to their former glory.

THe problem - they tried to go head to head with an ever expanding Mercedes lineup - and more models have been less and less desirable while they spread out their money. At some point - we will have a recession - and returning to their roots will be what they need to do.

As good a the M5 is this could be a very interesting car.

I’d prefer the S63 because a coupe this large is more of a luxo take than a sporty one. I would probably like that balance from the AMG more than the M8. The 8 series already doesn’t have a luxurious essence to the same degree as the S coupe. If I were shopping for a sports coupe I’d go AMG GT R vs this M8. It’s size is more appropriate for that mission. Or th new Aston Vantage or F-type SVR

The BMW M8 and 8-Series in general is a huge miss by BMW. BMW is delivering a car that places more emphasis on sport and driving dynamics to a segment that wants luxury and cushy ride. That's precisely why the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe has been so successful and BMW so far behind in this segment.

The BMW M8 is no different. It's ride will be too rough and its interior too cheap to make any impact on S-Class Coupe sales.
