California Layouts Alternative Efficiency Standards in EPA Meetings

California Layouts Alternative Efficiency Standards in EPA Meetings
California has countered President Donald Trump’s proposed rollback of fuel economy and greenhouse gas requirements for cars and trucks, according to Andrew Wheeler, acting administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Wheeler, speaking to reporters at an event at EPA headquarters in Washington, didn’t provide details of the California offer. Wheeler said the plan was laid out in discussions Tuesday but he had not yet been fully briefed by his staff on its contents. He said he understood the discussions were “positive.”

California has alot of air quality problems not all from industry and cars. They have huge issues in areas that were once lakes that are now deserts, drained to support LA. Cars are an issue, but there are many other causes... Hey why not look at nuclear power.. oh your state is full of anti nuke morons... California is a paradise ruined by liberal krazies...

Oh nonsense - more baseless political gibberish

Are you actually trying to say that the problems that caused the poor air quality were only caused by Liberals? THat is ridiculous and uninformed.

Hard to believe - but Conservatives also drive cars, have built houses in once pristine locations(Malibu for instance) - and build plants to manufacture goods - use electricity to cool their mansions, Hey - why not look at the amount of water needed by Nuclear Power Plants that California does not have - among other things.

The fact is - the DAMS built in California have created more and larger lakes than they had before that time.

Nuclear energy has been on the wane in the entire USA for years - and there was a time YOU likely would have complained about the problems that Earthquakes could cause - noting that Liberals did not put the largest system of underground Fault lines under California - they have been there all along. THe fact is Westinghouse Electric - the once Largest Nuclear power plant producer - went bankrupt because the plants they built often took decades longer to construct - and went Billions of Dollars over budgets - and ended up with Electricity whose costs were not-competitive with Natural Gas produced electricity. Fracking has created a glut of Natural gas in this country - which we now can export because we cannot use it all - in the end - it is cleaner and cheaper by far than Nuclear - and does not produce huge amount of Nuclear waste that we have no place to put once used.

Idiots who place blame on a group without a single piece of supporting evidence deserve to be ignored. THe problems in California will not be solved by Blaming the Liberals - when it is the Conservatives that most often attempt to deny the conditions - and claim they are NOT TRUE - so they reduce the efforts (Which Trump is doing right now). But blaming ANYONE is counter productive - and the real problem not doing anything about it - and California actually has the most active Air quality Departments in the USA.

Hey DB sure didnt expect to get into it with you... but people are leaving the state in droves, why, high taxes, complete disregard for taxpayers, tons of insane regulations and rules, sanctuary cities, poop, needles & homeless people everywhere, unaffordable housing and the Demokooks not only have run the place for decades but have super majorities and the Guv elect is the biggest lefty nut case of them all. The state has massive problems and debt brought by irresponsible government... I wasn't blaming anyone other than the DemoRats that have run that magnificent state into the ground for decades. California and EPA rules forcing citizens to drive Toyota Yaris’s (while libs drive 650 Maybach’s) is NOT the answer, is it part of the answer, possibly but its not THE answer.

If I’m not mistaken there hasn’t been a new nuke plant built in 30 years, yet we haven’t had a "china syndrome"... with the technology today its clean efficient and safe but has been so besmirched by pathetic emotional liberal snowflakes, creeps and enviroweenies such that their komrade politicians stop the debate. I don't think much of France in any way, but they derive I think 90% of all electricity from nuclear energy because it’s smart, clean and efficient and nearly inexhaustible. I did not say Nuclear Power was the answer either but it should be part of the answer.

That said you are simply a pathetic bully nutcase... do as I say, not as I do... any other perspective is stupid and ignorant and you're a "rich" commie lib and believe in "science" so you're smarter... wish you'd give this site a rest for a while…

Just an FYI. The Union of Concerned Scientists just reversed their long time policy against nuclear power. They now have come out and said that nuclear power has to be part of the power mix if the goal is minimize CO2. It's a non polluting continuous source. We're decommissioning too many of them. That's true locally here where there were several that were shut down leaving only one online. That lost power has somewhat been replaced by solar and wind, but they are not continuous sources, so lots of natural gas plants are being built. Attempts to get hydro power from Canada have been stymied by environmentalists objecting to the transmission lines being built to bring it in.

California's population is INCREASING, despite everything you mentioned.

Certain parts of California like the LA basin because of the topography trap the air and exasperate poor air quality no matter the cause. For example, early written accounts by explorers coming to the LA area from the east documented the poor air quality due to fires set by Indian encampments.
