Audi Answers The BMW M8 Gran Coupe with 700HP RS7

The Audi RS7 has been spotted undergoing testing before its proposed launch next year. The V8-powered fastback will form Audi Sport’s technological flagship, and should combine a petrol engine with electronic assistance to top 700bhp, a figure higher than its rivals from Mercedes-AMG and BMW.

As confirmed to evo by Audi’s head of design, Marc Lichte, the new car will be available in two states of tune. The more conventional derivative will use the Volkswagen Group’s 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine tuned to produce approximately 650bhp, some 100bhp more than fitted in the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

Actually - Foot1 - that is NOT true

THe original COUPE' in indicated that a car had no C-Pillar (ie the windows were frameless) - and there were many 4 door coupes as it was a regular body style for years. IT was not until roll-over standards were put into place that the 4 door Coupe disappeared.

It is a glorifed A6. This is silly.

Audi should cancel the TT, cancel the R8 and roll out a $130K A8-based two door luxo-coupe/cabrio and put the 700HP in that. Audi could label it the 'A9'. They could sell a $200,000 version and call it the A9 Horsch (just kidding!).

Because anything less would be Horschit

The old school companies seems to have nowhere to go except to ratchet up their horsepower to ridiculous levels.

Great. Now there will be old farts driving to the drug store running 700 H.P. monsters on the street.

The problem remains - can you tell if someone is driving something special - or does it actually like so much like an A6 that you cannot tell - the latter appears true.

Eventually - Audi is going to need SOMETHING to differentiate its SPORTS performance cars from the regular ones besides more Alpha - numerics.

I believe the performance versions (S and RS) will have their exhausts showing, unlike the base models which won't.
