SKETCHED OUT + TEASED! The Refreshed Genesis G90 Slips Out And We're NOT Sure What To Think...
This week the refreshed Genesis G90 was revealed to a private collection of attendees in Korea. According to the latest intelligence, the G90 will make its public debut on November 27.

We assume this will be in Korea and, perhaps, also timed for an unveil at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show (LAAS), in parallel.

From what we understand, this G90 will merely be a refresh and a quick styling overhaul to make the flagship Gensis more fresh. As evidenced by the two sketches of the G90, it will get more dramatic changes to enhance its look and give it some panache.

Usually, I can start getting a vibe about a particular vehicle or design pretty soon after seeing sketches or even three-dimensional renders. This, on the other hand, leaves me a bit...speechless.

And I don't think it's in the good way.

Having said that, Spies, I wanted to present you with the sketches and teaser shot for YOU to weigh in: What do YOU make of the refreshed Genesis G90?

Love the tail. The headlights could be very attractive, but that mouth is horrendous. Mind you, I'd love a G90 no matter what, but what were they thinking if the sketch is right?

This time they copied Alfa Romeo

But the build quality, durability, and reliability will be better with Genesis. In fact, FCA should pay Hyundai to reskin the Genesis models as Alfa Romeos for sheer elevation of quality control and superior design. I'm tired of Chrysler LX mongrels.

While I like their designs, Genesis customer dealer satisfaction was only a notch or two from the bottom. If you don't have a problem it doesn't matter what dealer you bought it from...but if you do a bad dealer makes it twice as worse.

This statement: "...Genesis customer dealer satisfaction was only a notch or two from the bottom..." needs clarification BIG TIME. Premium buyers tend to be entitled, pissy-pants types that do drah-mah. Now factor in that Genesis is sold in the same dealer space that the bargain-basement Accent. Now those pissy-pants, nose-uppity types (recall the moron in the Tesla at the salt flats) are bound to get bent out of shape that the Accent customer isn't immediately kicked to the curb. Now factor in the owners of Hyundai franchises that were told to build stand-alone dealers and got left holding the bag when Hyundai changed their mind about such dealers. So you have the perfect storm of flatulent nimrods and disgruntled dealers taking a dump on cars that are quite excellent.

MDarringer, let me give you a few personal unsatisfactory dealer experiences that may reflect the type that get dealers a poor rating...1) When my wife got her new car home from the dealer and opened the trunk it was full of huge cockroaches. The call to the dealer got the response "Well take it to an exterminator." Click. 2) A new car was driven into a parking garage and it became clear in the overhead lights that the hood had been totally repainted. When taken back to the dealer and after much heated discussion the dealer pulled a hood off a showroom car and replaced ours, letting the next sucker deal with it. 3) I called a dealer to see if they had a brand new model in stock and to make a reservation to see it because my wife is handicapped and I didn't want her to make the trip if the model had not arrived. They said they had the first one to come in and be at the dealership at noon. We got there on time though it was not easy for my wife in the snow and we were told "Yes we have that model here but it is in our maintenance shop for our technicians to go over and we cannot show it to you for at least a week." Then why the hell tell us to come see it. These are but just three non-hissy fit, non-entitled and n0n-drah-mah examples (as you put it) of how dealers get dinged by ordinary people in dealer satisfaction surveys. And who hasn't had a bad dealer experience and then have them beg you for a good rating when the manufacturer survey's you about the experience so they don't miss out on their bonuses....come on man!

Was this: "1) When my wife got her new car home from the dealer and opened the trunk it was full of huge cockroaches." a Genesis dealer? If not, then putting it here implies that it is.

A simple call to the manufacturer via the 800/888 number would have caused all hell to break loose if a newly delivered car had roaches in it. How is that even possible? What's your theory on how that happened? I'm genuinely curious.

I'm sorry you had that kind of an experience. Our policy is to double-triple check a car before it leaves. The car is delivered freshly washed with a full tank of gas. The materials that are supposed to be in the glove box are. The tires are properly inflated and it is examined for cleanliness.

We do that for the Spark/Fiesta types as well as the Navigator/Escalade types.

My other question is if this dealer has so mistreated you, why did you keep going back? Assuming your stories to be true--and I do--a call to the manufacturer--these days--causes hell fire and brimstone to rain down.

"Needs an 'S' on it" was the best comment.
I am not to concerned about the design. They are on the same delivery schedule as Tesla. I was told by my local dealer that the G70 would be available by June. Last week told me by February. I have moved on.

To MDarringer, for your clarification, one was a Mercedes-Benz dealer, one was a Nissan dealer and one was an Audi dealer. Never went back to any of them. Second, "assuming the stories are true", excuse me. You cannot make this sh*t up, many dealers earn and deserve their bad reputation. Third, you were questioning dealer satisfaction surveys by denigrating premium buyers in general and I was responding in general why some dealers deservedly get dinged. Fourth, in each of the situations I wrote about I called the manufacturers and got a version of "Sorry to hear about your experience, thank you for telling us.

Damn, you're easily triggered. You clearly did NOT read what I wrote and this proves it: "Second, "assuming the stories are true", excuse me." You took umbrage at the OPPOSITE of what I said.

But hey, you are showing all the signs of being the pissy entitled type. I thought you were a reasonable person. That's my mistake.

MDarringer..Pissy fits happen. What can I say. All my bad dealer experiences flashed before my eyes. Dealerships upset me at times primarily because doing the right thing is not that difficult and so many times their poor reactions to customer problems is based on poor training of their personnel. I'm not disparaging all dealers but some are sadly run. The proper response to customer issues I believe should always be "We highly value you as a customer and will do everything possible we can to make it right for you." Doesn't mean you will fill unreasonable customer requests but puts the customer first in reaching an appropriate and fair resolution.

Given what my degrees are in, I do a lot of work with staff on active listening and de-escalation techniques. That does not mean the customer is always right and sometimes you just kick it upstairs to the regional manager but if the dealer takes it to the RM, that makes all the difference in the world for all concerned.

The sketches look promising. The reality does not. The sketches almost make it look pretty dynamic. But the covered draped car looks very upright. that being said, any new styling touches for the existing model will help. The current car is just overly conservative and with its derivate styling cues, it just adds up to a lot of nothing. At least a car like the A8 is conservative with distinctly Audi touches.

They should throw in a V8 with a nice level of equipment for $50K. I just don't see them convincing people to buy one at nearly $70K base. Price a well equipped G80 at $40K. Price the G70 at $30K well equipped. Granted, the steep discounts will result in those numbers, but...

I agree, the sketches look dynamic, and the cues are fairly original or their interpretation of std cues. The prejusdice against Korean "new to the game" vs German "pedigree" will eventually be significantly reduced as long as they continue to press and bring the value. There are only so many that are willing to pay the premiums for German cars. If this car has a tight V8 etc... and competes w/an E Class only so many will crave the star and the buzzy 4 cyl engine and "MB-Tex" interior vs this. Any only so many rich liberals can buy a Maybach 650? With mechanicals in most cars being more and more similar quality, interiors, electronics, drivers aides all being the same, exterior styling and marketing will be a significant determination point. Again this represents value and thats how Lexus established itself...

Sorry - it is still a Korean Wannabe.

If it were priced $20,000 less (It will be sold for that) - it might be worthwhile to those who do not care what they are seen in

But for people who actually want the prestige of a premium car - Korea is a good origination point

Why do we have to endure the constant verbal battles initiated by "certain" individuals on this site?

Congratulations. You've taken all of the fun out of being an automotive enthusiast.

i suggest you get a life. And leave this site for those of us who come for timely information AND TOPIC RELEVANT DISCUSSION.

Personally, I've had enough of your macho posturing and use of this site to self-confirm what you think you're all about.

Can we please refrain from firing off the verbal assaults - and comments suggesting there is a defect in one's manhood - whenever a reader is in disagreement with your own personal views?

Happy Thanksgiving.

The norm for this site is non-stop insults and verbal fighting. Just watch any Tesla thread--where I have made myself largely absent by the way--and the insults and fighting are rather glorious.

It's also disingenuous for you to act like the beleaguered party when you yourself have hopped into the fighting with glee. That would make you a hypocrite by the way.
