That New BMW x2 M35i You Have Been Waiting For Will Set You Back How Much?
f you've been thinking about picking up a new BMW X2, your choices have come down essentially to the sDrive28i and its all-wheel counterpart the xDrive28i – both with the same engine and the same output. But a couple of months ago, the Bavarian automaker revealed the X2 M35i. It just didn't tell us at the time how much it would cost. But now it has.

As our compatriots at CarsDirect discovered, the configurator for the X2 has been updated with the new performance model, and it starts at $46,450. That makes it just more than ten grand more expensive than the base version.

An answer to a question no one asked. This amounts to a well over $50 K for a tiny "performance CUV"?!?

I really wish this thing wasn't so unattractive in person. The profile looked promising at intro, but the actual product just doesn't look great.

Its all about what angle you look at from. And getting the larger wheel/tire pkg to fill the wheel-wells better. Otherwise it's pretty descent.

The overall proportions are like the Infiniti QX30, M-B GLA...which share the same platform. They're these vehicles where slight changes in some dimensions yield either a smallish tall wagon or a low stylized hatch or a cute-ute CUV. Perception & marketing is everything b/c different consumers in different markets can see either of these cars being something different altogether.

Inflation is starting to kick in after more than a decade of being held in check. To protect margins and to cover increased expenses for raw materials and higher cost technology auto makers are raising prices, especially on specialty and high performance models. Tough sledding is ahead for the industry with interest rates rising, a slowdown in China's economy, wages for many not keeping up, global political uncertainty, etc. etc.
