France Burns Over New Gas Taxes While US Prices Continue To Fall
TEAR gas and water cannons have been fired by riot police in France amid a desperate struggle to control violent protests of more than 30,000 residents angry at President Emmanuel Macron over rising fuel prices.

French police locked horns with thousands of angry protesters who stormed the streets with placards and wearing yellow vests before hurling objects at riot police and starting fires. Shocking images show demonstrators waving an array of flags and ramming metal barriers into police, with some being dragged away from the scene by officers. Paris was last night under a fog of tear gas, with demonstrators also being targeted with water cannons to fire at police. Officers were also seen edging closer to protestors using a wall of their shields.

Diesel still rules in France. The new taxes really hurt those outside of the major metropolitan areas.

In France the Parisian liberal elitist set the policy and squeeze the rest of the country to support their socialistic agenda. Socialism only survives until there is no one left to tax. If the far left gains the upper hand here in 2020 we face a similar future.

@PUGPROUD - I sleep much better at night knowing I have Universal Health Care and that only citizens are allowed to contribute to political campaigns and only just $1550.00 CAD per year. Capitalism isn't evil and neither are human centred social policies and programs. But throwing fire bombs just because the price of gas is high will get you thrown in jail. As well I think you need a few more political parties on the go (like we have) before you can say have a far left or far right.

I sleep even better knowing that when my failing hip finally dies I don't have to wait 8 to 9 months for a replacement (latest Canadian stats), or wait months to see a specialist when my PSA spikes, or that when my wife gets breast cancer she can quickly get the very latest in cancer care and not something some bureaucrat has decided is ok because it doesn't cost a lot. The USA has government healthcare. It's called the VA. Excellent care, as long as you don;t get really sick. Bulk of my career was in healthcare electronics sold globally. Seen them all. Government healthcare always rations.

@Vette71 There are a lot of scare stories perpetuated by the GOP about Canadian Health Care. Most is false. The bottom line is any Canadian could break their arm, have a baby and get brain surgery next week and it won't cost them a dime. No financial burden, no long term debt, no selling your house to pay medical bills, no bankruptcy. That's the most important difference. It should be no different in the USA. But the powers that be (GOP donors from the medical, drug and insurance groups) don't want things to change. 2020 is coming. Decide on the future you want for yourself and your children.

CC Likewise the things you refer to in the USA are myths perpetuated by the liberal elite. Note that they passed Obamacare which solved all those issues. We don't have them anymore! If Obamacare is so great why did Congress exempt themselves and their staffs from having to belong to it? The Canadian stats are published for all to see. Likewise the UK's National Health limits on what can be spent on the elderly (No ICDs for anyone over 73,etc.). Don't forget that our system supports the advancements in drugs, treatments, equipment, etc. that the rest of the world gets to use. It employs lots of people. That won't be there if the USA adopted the Canadian, UK, Japanese, etc, systems.
