Alfa Romeo Strongly Considering A X3/Q5 Killer Based On The Jeep Renegade Platform

Alfa Romeo entered the world of SUVs for the first time in 2016, with the introduction of the Stelvio.

A rival to the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Stelvio shares its underpinnings with the Giulia and is one of the best vehicles in the segment.

The Stelvio should soon be joined by a smaller sibling, which will have to deal with the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, among others. There’s been no shortage of rumors about the as ye -unnamed compact SUV, but the latest one is probably the strangest.

They will just shrink the platform a bit more and make a smaller SUV out of it. Jeep has nothing to offer in a worthy platform for a luxury miniature CUV.

Over the Years - Ford and Chrysler were always behind in producing modern platforms for their car. Today - VW and GM (With their VSS platforms) have made the investments to consolidate most of their cars on a minimum number of platforms - which means that plants can easily switch between models produced as demand requires - maximizing Plant Utilization. Once these platforms are fully in place you could see the return of some cars that are being discontinued for low volumes.

Headline is incorrect. They are building a X1/Q3/GLA competitor. They already have an X3/Q5/GLC rival

"A...Killer Based On The Jeep Renegade Platform"

Now that's priceless. The Renegade is a class trailing design that is already showing its age.

Same platform, dimwit. The 500X is a total disaster for sales and both it and the Renegade are agricultural for their NVH, so yeah making a new Alfa Quadramerda makes total sense.

Even in Italy the Renegade widely outsells the 500X. The Compass, which is less crude, also shares that platform. The size is right but beyond that it's questionable as to its being the basis for an upscale model.

I would caution anyone looking at an X1 Q3 etc. My neighbour just traded in his 8 year old Subaru Legacy on one. In his words, it is "tight" all over. If you are going to buy an SUV/CUV go midsize.

2005 Lancer, 2008 Lexus IS and Alfa Romeo hint headlights. But since none of them are Korean people are going to act like those headlights are original.

The Jeep Renegade platform which it shares with the Fiat 500X is basically a revamped platform originally derived from the Alfa Giulietta FWD platform. It was lengthened and widened for the Dodge Dart as well as further modified for the Jeep Cherokee and newer Jeep Compass. It was also used for the FWD Chrysler 200. The platform itself is fine and versatile. It really gets down to how it is tuned. Fiat at one point was going to due a Fiat 500X Abarth with the engine from the Alfa 4C. So I can see how it is a way to keep the cost down and not use the Georgio RWD platform. If Alfa does build this it will be tuned appropriately so it will ride and handle well above anything that has come out before. It will have an Alfa styled body as well as interior and most likely the 2.0 engine perhaps detuned 250HP or so.My main concern is what transmission will it use. Will the use the trouble prone 9speed or the much better Alfa 8speed auto tranny.
