#LAAutoShow: WHY Do ALL Of The Automaker's Infotainment Interfaces Completely SUCK When Compared To Tesla's?
Over the past couple of years I've been behind the wheel of quite a few electric vehicles. At first, I was skeptical. In fact, I couldn't figure out why one would possibly want to even own a plug in. Unless it was a toaster or electric tea kettle, why bother?
So I thought.

Only recently have I really gotten into EVs. As I commute to/from Manhattan daily, I burn quite a bit of fuel. But that wasn't an issue when I had an EV in my possession. Even better, the vehicles were silent and peaceful during the rush hour grind. It actually was quite zen-like.
Having said that, we're starting to get better acquainted with this market and at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show we even stopped by the Tesla stand. That's right. Elon Musk's TSLA made a second consecutive appearance at the LA show.
After spending some time walking through the vehicle's infotainment system, one thing becomes readily apparent. Tesla's user experience blows away...everyone. It's not even close.
And that's the funny thing. It's not like Tesla came out of right field with this software.
So, we've got to ask:
WHY do ALL of the automaker's infotainment interfaces completely SUCK when compared to Tesla's?

I’d hope their infotainment system is awesome considering it’s the only thing to look at in a bland, dull, interior....

Not to mention, all the money went to funding the iPad on the dash, while the steering wheel looks like it’s about to fall apart.

The agents must be getting good money.

Given the breathless, fawning posts over Tesla, I'd say where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

Indeed - apparently there was no minor Tesla news enough that the agent here had to come up with a statement that HE OFFERS NO SUPPORT FOR
So - WHERE WAS the study done that supports your statement about the Tesla Inerface - Agent00R? Or is this still another PERSONAL opinion - statistically insignificant - that was produced likely through illicit unreported likely payments?
If you are being honest - you will HAVE actual support for your statement - a REAL double blind study performed by a research company - where is it? ANd IF you don't have such - ADMIT IT _ and submit your resignation to the site

Because Tesla invented everything including round wheels.

Because for whatever reason, car companies are letting designers get away with murder these days. No car should have a stuck on display screen. It should be integrated into the dash and if not embedded in the console, have it pop up and disappear with the touch of a button. I am there are still a few companies who understand this simple approach to interior design.

So, here's the thing. Everyone bitches about the "stuck on" look but in reality if these screens are built into the dash you wind up with these ridiculous dashboards that look like they belong in an early 90s GM product.
For example, the current-gen S-Class is a brilliant machine but you can't tell me that the two 12-inch screens are integrated in a nice fashion.
I'd take the "tacked on" look over the humps any day of the week.

@Agent00R- Correct. Benz does it the worst and it looks bad. If you want a big screen in the car like the Model S, do it the same way. the new Porsche interiors look great in my view. They are doing it right.

Touché.
Porsche is a great example. Although the integration in the new 911 with the afterthough HVAC vents reminds me of the 512BBi, haha.
Have you seen the new Continental GT's interior? As it's leveraging Porsche's approach since they're all under the VW umbrella, you may dig that look/feel too.

@Agent00R. I as much as I would like a Ferrari F612 Scaglietti in TDF blue, I absolutely love a new Continental GT. That car inside and out is sooo much better than the old model. The interior is over the top old and new school British Luxury. And the revolving section of the dash is very trick indeed. Bentley did an outstanding job on this car.

LIES.....if you are gonna come for THE KING S Class, come correct.
While the screens in the S Class aren’t my favorite part of the interior, I’ll take it Sunday over a giant iPad that dominates the interior and will date the interior as soon as the next best tablet comes out.
Let’s also not forget why the rest of the interior makes S Class superior, from the string of pearls vents, to the speaker design, not to mention the seat controls attention to detail and positioning on the door, nearly every aspect of the interior other automakers overlook, Benz stepped up and pays close attention to them...turning seat controls, speakers, air vents, and more into design elements that make the experience special.
And no I’m not payed by mercedes, although I have a few shares, and just call it like I see it

the center screen is not "stuck on"... Good luck trying to to remove it simply by pulling on it. It is a solid bit of kit built into the vehicle. It is designed for simple conversion to right hand drive countries during assembly without worrying about the entire dashboard needing a separate manufacturing process. Pretty smart design and you are going to see this more and more as designs for the world consumer market are going to mean less traditional buttons and gauges and more easily right hand drive conversion-ready touch screens.
With the minimalist Swedish-inspired interior and panoramic roof the feeling one gets when climbing inside the Model 3 is that of Fresh Air. Air is seemingly all around you. From the low dash enabling ridiculous amounts of front-visibility to the clean interior design to the entirely glass roof the feeling is like no other car on the road today. ..but wait.. in a few years, EVERYONE will be copying the Model 3.

The Tesla S interface is fine and kudos to them. It does not, however blow everything else away. I agree with Car4Life1 above that you have to consider the interior as a whole. In this respect, it comes down to preference.
What is it with Muskateers that everything about Tesla is absolutely better than anything else? (Except their earnings).
They do have the best taillights that soon everyone else will copy.
