Ford Trademarks Mach E For Mustang EV Crossover
Ford fans weren’t too thrilled when hearing that the Mach 1 name might be applied to an electric crossover, so Ford took note and went back to rethink branding.

Now, from a recent trademark filing, we learn that Mach E was applied for and approved in late November. This seems like the name we’ll find adorned on Ford’s first pure electric, long-range crossover in the near future.

The Mach 1 name or any version of it should not be used for a 4-door Mustang. Why does it even need a new name? Mustang E would have been enough. Save the Mach-1 name for high performance Mustang short run like the Bullitt.

@Zlives and @MBguy -Both correct. But the Mach 1 name is a classic part of Mustang history. Mach-E tries to ride on those coat tails. No doubt he front grill and rear lights might borrow from or be inspired by the present Mustang. I am unsure why Ford would want an electric CUV linked in any way to the Mustang. It could stand on its own as a technological milestone for the firm.

Ummm... The article says "Mustang Inspired." It did NOT say the new model was going to be called a "Mustang."

BIG DIFFERENCE.
