2020 Silverado HD Cements F-150's Place At Number One With A Face Only A Mother Could Love
When the 2020 Silverado HD debuts in February 2019 it will be the most capable and most advanced Silverado HD ever. It will also be the third all-new Silverado model from Chevrolet in just 18 months — each designed for different customers.

“We know the needs and priorities of heavy-duty customers are different than those of either light-duty or medium-duty customers,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, chief engineer, Silverado HD. “As such, we built a heavy-duty truck tailor-made for them that has more differentiation than ever before from light-duty models, offers advanced towing technologies to improve towing confidence and includes new features such as the integrated Bedstep, which makes it easier to access the bed while pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.”

Built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Mich., the new Silverado HD’s design has a bold, sculpted form that follows its enhanced heavy-duty function, differentiating it from the light-duty Silverado. In fact, the 2020 Silverado HD exterior shares only the roof with its Silverado 1500 stablemate — every other piece of sheet metal is exclusive to Silverado HD.

“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck,” said Brian Izard, lead exterior designer for Silverado HD. “The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details.”

The interior benefits from similar architectural changes made to the all-new Silverado 1500, including an additional 3 inches of legroom on crew cab models and a taller, more comfortable seating position.

Under the 2020 Silverado HD’s hood is a choice of two new powertrains: an all-new gasoline engine with direct injection mated to a six-speed transmission, or the Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8, which delivers 910 lb-ft of torque through an all-new, Allison 10-speed transmission.

The 2020 Silverado HD also will offer all-new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a host of technologies and features designed specifically for heavy-duty truck customers.

GM’s focus on understanding truck customers has helped build the most successful truck franchise in the industry over the last four years. Since introducing the industry’s first three-truck strategy with midsize, full-size light-duty and full-size heavy-duty trucks in 2014, GM has been the best-selling truck manufacturer for four consecutive years. The company has sold more than 600,000 pickups than the closest manufacturer from 2014 through the first three quarters of 2018.

That momentum is expected to continue with the launches of the new Colorado ZR2 Bison, all-new Silverado 1500, the all-new Silverado Medium-Duty trucks and now the all-new Silverado HD models.

The 2020 Silverado HD goes on sale in mid-2019, stay tuned for more details about the all-new 2020 Silverado HD.

Wow, guess they didn't want to just give the most hideous face crown to toyota without a fight.

Yikes! Stopgap maneuver is to restart production of the last generation of models and market them as Silverado and HD "Classic" line of trucks. The next thing is for Barra to go personally to the Tech Center and fire with great fanfare the head of GM Styling as well as the head of Chevrolet styling. Go recruit Ralph Gilles as FCA isn't giving him much to do these days.

Ralph Gilles has presided over some pretty nasty moves with the ugly Cherokee, the Barbie Jeep, the cliched Giulia, the dull 200 and Pacifica.

Mary Barra needs to be fired along with the entire leadership of the styling department. Hire a design house.

But also some nice ones like the RAM pickups, Grand Cherokee, the Dodges and even the 300. Design is subjective. The key is sales. Even the Cherokee sold a lot. The RAM is about to blow up the GM line, Jeep has doubled it 2013 US sales to almost 1M vehicles this year. GM can't say that about any of its products. GM has a lot of resources in GM styling. The leadership isn't there. Yes the fish rots from the head. Mary has to go.

Wow...it is unbelievable that something like that could make it though all the sets of eyes that approve it before production. This thing gives the Aztek a run for its money. Also, all the bling is completely wrong for 2500 pickups which are largely purchased for worksite use.

2 quick thoughts...

#1. The Aztec team is back for the their second attempt at something resembling a "truck"

#2. My first thought was the Family Truckster from National Lampoon's Vacation. All it is missing is metallic green paint and vinyl wood trim.

WOW!!! I really think GM is on a suicide mission. The new Silverado is BLEH at best mimicking a 10-year old Toyota Tundra, and this. Words can't convey what that is.

I agree with the title, Ford wins this round in a massive way. Who in their right mind would want to show up to work or anyplace else in that. Let's hope the GMC version fairs better.

You said everything that was in my mind. I am in disbelief that something this disgusting to look at in real. Do they not have test groups? Who were these idiots? I'd just kill production before it started so that we aren't talking about this sick thing for the next 20 years like the Aztec.

Look up the original releases when they lauded her hiring. They ALL bragged she was a ‘product person’. SERIOUSLY? WHAT kind of PRODUCT PERSON allows this to see the light of day?

She was HR before she was “given” the product job. Don’t get me wrong, she a very smart person but in this job she’s in over her head and that will have enormous repercussions....

i would,
1. Remove the grill above the CHEVROLET and fill it with a blank plate of matching color
2. remove the word chevrolet and replace with logo, and instead of silver, black it out
3. facepalm about the lights...

Face is okay, I like the aggressive look. The Chevrolet sign is way too big, it's like wearing a t-shirt with a brand name taking all the front spot.

GM is certainly on an UGLY design trend!

They recognized feedback said new Camaro was UGLY n they did a quick bandaid job on the frontend.

Feedback says new Silverado is UGLY inside and out... So GM is in emergency repair on that too...

Get the design repair ready for this most UGLY frontend on the HD trucks... Can't see any converts coming to GM but many will run to Ram n Ford.

The new Ram HD looks good n CLASSY!!

Your turn Ford... Don't F-up the new SD.
