2019 Jeep Wrangler Scores Only 1 Star In European Safety Rankings

The famous ‘death wobble’ isn’t the only major issue plaguing the new generation Jeep Wrangler, as the SUV isn’t as safe as one would think. In fact, Euro NCAP tested it alongside other vehicles and gave it only 1 star.

The rating was pulled down in the Safety Assist category, as the 2019 Jeep Wrangler lacks automatic emergency braking and lane assistance.

“It is truly disappointing to see a brand new car being put on sale in 2018 with no autonomous braking system and no lane assistance”, commented Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen. “It is high time we saw a product from the Fiat-Chrysler Group offering safety to rival its competitors.”

I am ok without either feature. I want to see a any new vehicle do well in front, offset, side and roof crush. Lane keeping and emergency braking are your responsibility as a driver.

I don't use lane keeping feature as it tends to be annoying, but I do like the emergency braking especially the forward collision warning system by Tesla. There may be occasional false alarms such as parked car in the line of sight when driving around a curve, but very helpful in unpredictable stop/start traffic.

THis remains among the largest frauds in Auto test statistics.

To THIS DAY - no one has ever done a study that shows that vehicles that do well in these controlled test crashes - are safer in real life driving. AS a result - Manufacturers have simply built their vehicles to a standard that passes these bogus tests - and FORD was one of the recent ones who added a small Metal Brace up front to get a better crash score.

The problem is - these crashes are under controlled conditions - with controlled acceleration, controlled braking(something YOU are unlikely to do in a crash), and with contact at specified angles to the oncoming vehicle hitting a stationary object - and the testers have admitted that the likelihood that you would get into a crash that would duplicate the ones they test for is near 0%.

So - for example - they reduced this score because the base vehicle does not have autonomous Braking or lane assistance - which in itself means that ALL cars built BEFORE these were available are NOW Road Hazards - that includes most of the vehicles on the road.

And of course - it does not test the vehicle for what it actually is.

So, a car is deemed unworthy because it doesn't babysit bad drivers?

Any excuse for this one ?

"Jeep’s all-new Wrangler didn’t do so well in the Adult Occupant, Child Occupant and Pedestrian categories either, where it scored 50 percent, 69 percent and 49 percent, respectively."

So typical European snobbery toward American cars.

Thanks, this is the perfect reason why I have to get a 3” lift, steel bumpers, rock sliders, and bigger tires!
