The Line Starts Here: Lexus To Unveil Super Fast Track Version Of RC F

Lexus plans to unveil a new superfast coupe at the Detroit auto show in January, just months before it hits the market.

The RC F Track Edition, which goes on sale in spring, reflects the brand's "Experience Amazing" evolution, said Cooper Erickson, vice president of marketing for the Lexus Division of Toyota Motor North America.

"It's about adding fun driving dynamics, styling, excitement, passion, emotion on to our traditional brand strengths," he said in an interview Thursday in Detroit.

I have no idea why Lexus would even produce a "TRACK ONLY" version of any car. Still another car that cannot be driven on public streets - BECAUSE you would not want to be seen in it!

I want to give Lexus a chance, but what kills them like many other manufacturers that go the performance route, is lack of consistency. You cant introduce an awesome machine like the IS-F, then kill it off and expect owners and fans to wait until you decide to bring it back...or throw out a super car or track car every once in a while to test the waters...

They end up abandoning the few performance owners they have, and losing press for model cycles and comparison test while M, AMG, and RS Cars dominate media coverage and which sometimes translates into sales/recognition

Lexus needs to return to buying market share by lowering prices. My wife's Christmas present was massively below list.

What line? The RC will be the first car LEXUS will discontinue along with the LC. NO one is buying them.

Another brand with personality disorder trying to be a German sport coupe or salon. Lexus' heritage stands for luxury and reliability at a lower cost. They should stick to what got them followers in the first place and be true to the founding brand values. Like people, when a brand tries too hard to be something its not or all things to all people it falls flat. feels not genuine.

Lexus should focus more on NOT designing and creating the ugliest cars and SUVs in the world first and then it could be much better off.

My wife doesn't know she's on her last 18 days with her RCF that she loves. The RCF is a lot like a Shelby Mustang with less bark. The RCF is a lot of fun to hoon.

Is Toyota gonna buy Tesla?

Toyota doesn't need Tesla. They can take Lexus electric and beat Tesla easily.

My unsolicited advice to Toyota is, take your I4 and V6 engines add twin turbos and that make more torque than horsepower. You have to run a marketing campaign explaining that, "Ppl buy on Hp but drive on TQ". Make sure the engine has some popping and crackling sounds...If it is marginally fast, but sounds like a beast ppl will buy it.

Case in point...MB can't make enough C63/C63 S to keep the public happy. Compare the C63's real world 0-60 times with Audi S5, RS 5 or S4 and BMW 340i X and there is no comparison. MB get smoked, because the C63 can't put all that torque on the pavement via the rear-wheel drive system and expect 0-60 times in the mid 3s.

BUT it sounds like a beast...so ppl will happily pay $80-100k for a c-class with a V-8.

Not bashing MB's C63 currently searching for one, non S because I'm poor. Maybe in the next life...

I digress but don't forget to add some type of electric motor or KERS system to keep the tree huggers happy. This is your winning formula. AND it is free!
