WHY Wasn't The Chevrolet Silverado HD High Country Revealed FIRST? #GrilleGate, 2018!
This week, General Motors' Chevrolet division made headlines. And, if I am honest, it wasn't for good reasons. It debuted the all-new Silverado Heavy Duty (HD) but there was just one problem.
Most people agree, it looks dreadful from the front.
Chevrolet Silverado HD
Two days later, however, Chevrolet showed us something else. That would be the all-new Silverado HD High Country.
Boasting a much cleaner design, it is a vehicle that actually appears pretty handsome. I wouldn't mind putting one in my driveway although I am not sure I would snap it up over the Ford F-150 or RAM.
That said, we're left wondering:
WHY would GM show us the Silverado HD High Country FIRST over the abominable standard version?
At least launch them at the same time!
What say you, Spies?

Someone clearly thought the other one was more impressive looking and they were right. It created a bad impression, but it was more "impressive".

@xjug Ford and GM need to learn that people are savvy enough to realize when a plebeian model has been gussied up and called premium. The Lincoln Continental is a literally a Super Fusion and if you know where to look, the Fusion bits are obvious. Priced at $37K base and fully loaded at $45K and replacing the MKZ it would have been successful. People know that the XT4/5 are essentially Chevy Equinox bits for double the price. The Cadillac Traverse will suffer for having been a Chevy first. The Aviator debuting an architecture that then migrates to the Explorer is at least trying to play the smoke and mirrors game more effectively.

Over the decades - there have been MANY vehicles whose styling was considered Okay by the Manufacturer but failed to be with anyone else - The Original Edsel was a great example - but the Chrysler Airflow was also shunned as well. And the list includes lots of examples from just about every decade. Gm is capable of recovering from this - especially since styling is NOT the main concern of commercial truck users of this type truck. Expect something to change fairly quickly
However the bigger concern is what happened to the WHOLE line of GM Trucks this time - especially when they had a whole new platform to work with. While they have some nice things for commercial use - like the wider space between wheel wells in the back - and the steps in the bumpers - the list of misses is long - too long - who was in charge - who was their boss - and WHY were so many things done wrong?
The biggest miss has to be the Gas mileage - which actually is worse on some of the trucks - the 4 Cylinder is a complete fiasco as well, The interiors are pretty much the same as the last generation - ie - last in class. You wonder if the people in charge all went on Jury Duty at the same time.
Mary Barra - this is your HIGHEST priority - nothing is more important than trucks to GM - and while you will sell them with incentives on the hoods - you cannot afford to have these be that far off the charts - and the coming SUVs better be MUCH better or FORD will simply smash you.

Spot on.. unfortunately for Cadillac the Lincoln Aviator is going to smash the XT6 right out of the gate....yet another missed opportunity to exceed expectations...

Not digging either. At least the 2019 GMC Sierra is there for people who aren't into the Chevy.

In this round of new pickups, the Ram is definitely the attractive one.

Ditto what Tom M said. I thought the Chrysler Air Flow was slick looking

How did this Edsel get green lighted for production? Do they not use focus groups anymore to test design as this is a real turd burger special. Ford must be doing a happy dance right now...

Designers have been given way to much power these days. You can see them in videos going on and on about curves, creases and power "emanating" from the slight lump in the hood. My assumption is the board gets tired of listening to them and just ok's the design and moves on to the next item on the agenda.
