Model 3 Vs M2 Competition, Which Would Be Your Choice For $60K?

Model 3 Vs M2 Competition, Which Would Be Your Choice For $60K?
Our friends Thomas and James at Throttle House are at it again. Back in October, we posted their Hyundai Kona Electric and Nexo Fuel Cell road test review and now they’ve come back with a Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor versus BMW M2 Competition video.

Personally, I’d prefer if they used a Model 3 Performance version to take on the M2 Competition, but they didn’t because they wanted to keep the cost of both vehicles under $60,000. A Model 3 Performance would have pushed the cost to about $5,000 more than the M2. However, the comparison isn’t all about performance, so the additional power offered in the Performance version may not have made that much difference in their opinions for this comparison.

M2 Comp.

I need the sensations attached to the driving experience. That includes the engine noise and rumble through the seats and steering wheel.

Actually watch the video. The petrolhead mentions the 3 has a better feel for the road and the M2 feels laggy after driving it.

Simple! Three pedals until they don't make them anymore. Once it's two, then I have every other car to consider.

The clutch pedal is what controls the torque and provides the connection between man and machine. Once its gone its handled completely by a computer loosing the feeling and connection and speed becomes a universal commodity.

Which one will be worth more in 5 years?

Which one will still be driveable in 5 years?

BMW for me.

Um, the Model 3. Look up depreciation on Teslas and reliability for BMWs.

Hands down the BMW and I think the 2 Series BMW is a total turd.

Great video, split decision from the reviewers. Surprised at how many positive things the petrol head had to say about the Model 3. The Performance Edition with another 100hp, bigger brakes, and custom settings may have put him over.

The Model 3 is an all-out better car with a lower cost of ownership, obviously picking that. I have the same model (AWD) and still love it. In fact... I now love it more than the S.

Very dedicated little street racer. Harsh ride, droning engine, very small interior space or storage. Good for those who are 100% dedicated to performance.

He is a much longer video of a track driving, petrol head, global warming denier that did choose the Model 3 over a M2 (he mentions the M2 half way through)... and he picked the base non AWD model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2943&v=FH_x_8Ukhmo

I’m a little confused why they are comparing a 4 door sedan with a 2 door coupe. Wouldn’t the proper comp be with the M3? Also, no mention of fuel mileage which is still and important consideration for daily commuting.. Model 3 112mpg-e and the Bmw M2 around 21mpg. The Bmw M3 starts at $70k with the Comp edition at $75k+.

You can get a Model 3 Performance for $65k (no autopilot) or $70k with Autopilot and not even getting into the EV Federal Tax writeoffs still available this year and next.

They are comparing on PRICE which is PRECISELY how buyers cross shop. The marketing research shows clearly that people with an amount to spend look at what it will buy them first and THEN they settle on a type and focus more closely at that point.

M2 Comp. Easy peasy.
