BMW And Porsche Leap Ahead Of Tesla With 3 Minute Charging Station for EVs
BMW AG and Porsche unveiled a charging station that in less than three minutes can jolt electric vehicles with enough power to drive 62 miles -- pushing ahead of Tesla Inc. in the race to make battery-powered cars more convenient.

The ultra-fast prototype charger has capacity of 450 kilowatts, more than triple Tesla’s Superchargers. Test vehicles developed to take that much power were recharged to 80 percent capacity in 15 minutes. Tesla’s stations need about 30 minutes for a similar charge, according to its website.

They are coming for you Elon with greater resources, a dealer network and strong resolve. Be afraid, be very afraid.

You seriously think the dealer network is a positive? Guess why all traditional cars don't have OTA updates? So that the dealers can force you to come in for service and gauge you.

And BMW and Hyundai are getting sued for their cars lighting on fire, what else is new?

I reality they haven't "pushed ahead" since one of the mentioned vehicle are on the market yet. TESLA is not going to sit and take it which is great for the consumer.

No vehicle can handle that much, will be years before this gets adopted.

If the test vehicles reached 80% in 15 minutes (assuming starting with a virtually empty battery), but that's only adding 62 miles, that's an apples to oranges comparison. 80% of even an E-Golf would be over 80 miles, the current Leaf would be about 130 miles, and most Tesla models would be adding over 200 miles at the 80% mark. Yes, they said the 62 miles was in three minutes, not 15. But stay with me here. If they aren't specifying the battery capacity (and the article linked does not), then the amount of time taken to reach 80% is meaningless. Sure, they say a Tesla takes 30 minutes to accomplish the same, but again, what size battery?

And I'm not even an EV devotee. Remember? I prefer diesels.

First of all, no car today of any kind supports more than 150 kW charging. Second, Telsa is moving to CCS chargers in Europe and will have CCS adapters for legacy cars. Whatever voltage other manufacturers support, Telsa will easily be able to support as well. That being said, there are probably seriously negative consequences to charging above 250 kW, so we'll see how these batteries are able to handle that kind of stress.
