As a professional in the data industry, I can attest to one thing that universally holds true: There's a lot of power in data. Rather than let it sit and go untapped, some businesses have decided to take a closer look and extract some insights out of this information.
One of those companies is CarMD, which is a business that sells an OBD II device that extracts critical data from vehicles in order to diagnose problems.
Given the nature of its business, it obviously has access to a plethora of auto data provided by users of its product. It has compiled what it calls the Vehicle Health Index. The purpose of the index is to see a couple of things:
1) The vehicles with check engine repairs and their respective costs, which results in a rank order of the Top 10 brands and Top 100 vehicles least likely to have a check engine light (CEL) on; and,
2) The Top 3 vehicles per category.
Pulling the data from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018, the winner was Toyota, which is considered the least likely brand to need a check engine repair. Mazda gets a nod because it is the brand with the lowest cost associated with a check engine repair.
All that said, I've passed along more finding from CarMD's data. Are there any OTHER surprises in here that caught you off guard?
