SCHWING or a MISS? Did YOU Know You Could Order A Porsche 911 Targa THIS Way?

SCHWING or a MISS? Did YOU Know You Could Order A Porsche 911 Targa THIS Way?
One of the coolest things about Porsche is how it's a marque that truly allows buyers to spec their vehicle in a countless number of ways. While many may dislike the a la carte approach, I actually love it.

That's because you can ensure you're getting an auto that's truly built to your taste(s), for better or worse.

There's just one thing: With Porsche, it'll cost you. Take, for example, the color matched key that retails for several hundred dollars. That's not exactly cheap for a bit of paint on some plastic.

As its vehicles have a multitude of options that feel quite endless, sometimes we lose track of what is possible with Porsche's help. Recently Agent 001 snapped a Porsche 911 Targa that was different from what we've seen previously.

That's because it was optioned with a red soft top. While we knew that was possible with the Cabriolet versions — and we dig red rag tops — we hadn't seen it before this specific vehicle.

So, we've got to ask: Is the red soft top on the Porsche 911 Targa a SCHWING or a MISS?

To my eyes it sticks out like a sore thumb, it will fade in the sun over time and look even worse (pink). Black would have been a preferable choice. But it is not my Porsche. I would be surprised if it is just dealer stock, that they would have chosen to order it that way for their lot. Too risky in my view to make a choice like that and hope someone will buy it.

Its handsomely distinctive and will find a buyer. My tastes are different, but to each his own.

The Porsche testa rossa option.

And it's parked across two handicapped parking spaces plus a large area marked "No Parking". Glad the dealership takes the needs of their customers seriously.

I can't tell what color the seats are, but I like it. There's a white Boxster with a red top in the picture, as well, so presumably the dealership has had luck with this combination, since they're stocking multiples of it.

In a world of crap cars... this is just very special. For all car lovers who have never driven one, go test drive one, its fantastic. While I don't think I'd order it like this, this one is really nice... make mine a 4S. The all wheel drive keeps the tail from getting in the way...

I like it. The shade of red is premium. The execution is clean. It stands out.

The 911 Targa, in this iteration has always confused me. I liked the "glass targa" of the 2000's with the sliding roof - that was cool and unique I thought.

What's the decision tree to buying the Targa versus just getting the Cabriolet 911?

I'm baffled that Porsche spent the money developing it.

Decision tree is like this. 911 or 911S - 4 or 4S - Targa. You can only access the Targa body if you get a 4 or 4S. The 4S Targa is the heaviest 911 model at 3500lbs.
