Ford Creates Noise-Cancelling Dog House To Quell Anxiety During Storms And Fireworks
Many dogs and other pets are terrified of fireworks, and for good reason -- their more sensitive hearing makes that pleasant popping turn into a cacophony of sounds. Ford, however, might provide some relief. The company (which is no stranger to high-tech beds) has built a doghouse that uses noise cancelling to minimize canine agony during fireworks shows.

Like the technology in some headphones and Ford's own Edge SUV, the kennel detects explosions with microphones and counteracts them by pumping out frequencies that mitigate the sounds or eliminate them altogether. The body includes soundproofing cork panels, anti-vibration risers and even soundproofed ventilation, while an automatic door helps your pooch quickly take shelter.

Here is a hint. Keep your dog indoors if you live near a park where fireworks are going off. Wait until they are done to go for a walk or let them out into the yard. A dog's place is with the family, not with the garden.

My dog never goes outdoors, other than a quick piddle or a trip to the vet. Doesn't matter. Thunder or fireworks terrify him. So that has nothing to do with it.

Where I leave there are at least three different Indian reservations within a short drive, and they all sell the really loud stuff. There's nothing I can do but give my dog a tranquilizer, which I really hate doing. The 4th of July nonsense lasts for weeks around here, and then New Year's Eve it goes nuts again.

@act98092 Sorry to hear that. In my area I get 30 minutes on Canada Day and then again for about the same time New Years Eve. I have only had Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. My female would hide under the coffee table until they were done. My male is now 7 and he isn't afraid of anything on this earth. But he will be a bit closer to where I am sitting when there is a fireworks night or if the thunder/lightening get out of hand. But that is all. But I do know every dog is different in this regard.

We have several mutts of the same litter that are Labrador Retriever + Rottweiler + Irish Setter and they are horses in size. great dogs but VERY excitable. We have spent a small fortune on fencing at our house so that kids and dogs cannot get out easily and yet, you'd be hard pressed to see much of the fencing from the front of the house. Fourth of July is a nightmare as is New Year's Eve

Stories like these have the whiff of the CEO or Chairman's wife initiating its development over the dinner table for "Muffy" her lap dog.
