RECALL ALERT: Ford Issues Notice For Nearly 875K F-Series Trucks Due To FIRE Risk

Engine block heaters are useful in cold climates, providing a little extra heat when it's needed. They are not, however, supposed to provide enough heat to start a fire.

Ford on Friday issued a recall for approximately 874,000 examples of the 2015-2019 F-150 and 2017-2019 Super Duty pickup trucks. Roughly half of the recalled trucks are located in the US, with the rest in Canada.

All of the trucks involved in the recall are equipped with engine block heaters, which is the root cause of the issue at hand...

I endeavor never to live where I would need an engine block heater.

I had one put in the 4Runner years ago. Winters were colder than. -30C for two weeks at a time. But nothing like living in Quebec or Manitoba or the North. Block heaters are a part of life. Most trucks recalled are in Canada from what I read.

While moving is the easy fix, in life you can't really appreciate the sweet without the sour. Winters are cold and dark and sometimes dreary. But spring and summer are glorious, burn brightly and eventually fade into fall. And so it goes. 4 seasons makes life richer and is far easier on a pet who is really best suited to temperatures that range from -30C to 15C.

#BS. LOL give me Palm Springs, a speedo, non-stop martinis, and a pool and I'll rock that scene year around.

@MD I will give you a good example. Sailor my 7 year old Chessie starts panting above 15C in the late Spring and by summer our walks are cut to 1/3 the length. But today it was -5C with it feeling -8C with the windchill. And so damp you cold feel the cold in your bones. However, he was in the river fetching sticks and swimming on a 4km hike. California is a great place to visit, but Chessie's are really only 3 season dogs.

My rottadors seem oblivious to the heat, but they have a lot of shade and a mister that is sensor triggered. Summer days here can be 100-105 with a couple of spikes to 108-109, The high today was 66 and tomorrow will be 71. The low will be 46 tonight.

If you look at the thermometer and it says "nut freezer" then you've not chosen wisely for a place to live.

Once visited a town in Wisconsin (20 below day) on business and the parking meters provided dipstick heaters to keep your crankcase from freezing. Burrr!!

You really have not lived (and suffered nearly enough) until you have done a late winter bike race in a Northern US state or in Canada. 2-3hrs of riding into the wind with snow, rain or hail to greet you. The Uxbridge Icebreaker was held in late March as is the current Melting Man (US), and the current Steaming Nostril and Paris-Ancaster (65km and 70km) are held in April. Some years it is sunny and dry, others are gloomy and present you with a sea of mud. I can remember being completely shattered at the end of the 2006 P2A and the 20% hill climb at the end. Epic, ungodly suffering! Enjoy!

I've suffered enough in this life in other ways to forego the suffering of extreme cold.

The bastids keep flooding my YouToob with F150 stupid ads. Seriously, I won't be caught dead (or crispy fried) driving that, why bother?
