If this happened here Ghson would likely never be arrested and in the end pay a hefty SEC fine to get on getting on, though maybe he would have to give up his Chairman's seat. As others have pointed out, he is being squeezed in an effort to free Nissan from Renault and re-establish Japanese control.

Laws are laws and each country makes their laws.

For example, if you ever happen to be in North Korea, don't break any laws because you will go away without a trial and maybe get beaten to death in the process.

Ghosn likely thought he was 'above the law' and if Japan was not legally holding him in prison, then Ghosn would have been out by now. The Japanese government is clearly in their rights (based on their laws) to hold him in jail.

I agree this wouldn't have happened in America or even Europe but every country has the right to make their own laws.
