#GIMS: TEASED! Volvo's Performance Division, Polestar, Gives Us Just A Glimpse Of What's To Come
Volvo's high-performance division, Polestar, is showing us something new. Well, kind of.

Set to debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show (GIMS) will be an all-new Polestar. Something we haven't seen the likes of previously.

And here's the good news: It won't cost six figures. In fact, the pricing is going to be very reasonable. Somewhere in the $45,000-55,000 range, in fact.

Some more details released via an employee: It will be all electric with a full charge taking it about 300 miles, it will have a four-door, fastback body and sticker at the Model 3 price point.

Dubbed the Polestar 2, it's pretty clear that Volvo is taking dead aim at Tesla's Model 3. As far as we can tell, this may be the first real competitor against the Model 3. While others have tried, neither deliver the sophistication and design of the current entry-level Tesla.

Having said that, Spies, what do YOU think the Polestar 2 NEEDS to SUCCEED?

Apparently wrap around rear light strips are going to be the next automotive design thing. Right on time as the floating roof treatment seems to have reached its zenith and is now fading out.

I find it hilarious that Volvo is struggling to convince people that it is a premium brand on the level of Mercedes rather than Buick--and not being entirely convincing at it--and then they decide to launch a new brand that only a half dozen people have ever heard of before. #idiocy

@MD Agreed. A niche within a niche etc... I have no idea who buys a vehicle with a 2.0L turbo charged and supercharged and even hybrid engine. Too much going on to be anything other than a lease. I am not saying every vehicle needs an LS variant under the hood, but a nice 3.0L V6 lets you sleep at night.

@CC So you can spend $51K for a base Cadillac CT6 and it has a damned 4 cylinder in it. If you can afford $51K, you can afford a twin turbo V6 or V8 under the hood like nature and God intended a Cadillac to be.

I spent the day in a CT6 4 cylinder to see if it was livable as my next new-to-CPO vehicle and I was as unimpressed by it as I am with the 2.0T craze in expensive premium vehicles.

I drove my Corvette to Newport Beach this week.

@MD-Good choice. Cadillac is wrong headed to put anything in the CT6 that isn't a Bi-turbo V6 or V8. Leave the 2.0L movement for the EU variants.

What's to come? Expensive, noisy and unreliable drive trains.

It just gets down to marketing. The Chinese have the money to make "Polestar" a performance name brand like AMG to Mercedes or M branding to BMW. Perhaps they are waiting for their EV's to take hold or perhaps waiting for sales of Polestar One to start. As for comparing Volvo to Buick I think if you just read general reviews you would have a different opinion of Volvo.Right now they have the "best" interiors in the business. Even their FWD cars compare well with Audi and their awd variants match up well with Audi, BMW ,and Mercedes.
