#CES: Save The Date! Audi Preps All-new In-car Entertainment Advances Ahead Of Vegas Debut
In recent days we've been keeping an eye on all things related to the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be a key place for vehicle-related technology debuts. We know a handful of automakers will be prioritizing this event.

One of them is Audi.

According to reports and company-issued press releases, the four rings will be debuting an in-car entertainment experience that will function when the vehicle is parked. On the surface that sounds quite a bit gimmicky but as the company notes in its latest release, there will be another concept around digitization as well.

Automakers, in general, haven't been so great at the whole innovation thing but perhaps they'll start turning it around as many have dedicated offices and resources in Silicon Valley these days.

That said, if you want to stay ahead of Audi and what it's up to, bookmark this story so you can watch the press conference LIVE on January 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

All the car companies are trying too hard with their in cabin systems. All a car really needs is solid CarPlay/android auto integration. The phone constantly updates, and when it becomes too slow it is easily replaced. The auto companies should focus their resources on EV development and autonomous driving tech. Trying to reinvent the in cabin electronics every few years is a costly game that will get them nothing.

Indeed. A glass cockpit isn't what everyone wants. Lord knows what it will do after the warranty expires. I'd be tempted by a G-Class Professional with vinyl interior, 300 cdi engine, roll up windows and a 5 speed auto with real off road wheels and tires. Sadly only sold in Germany, Australia and the Middle East. Euro 5 still acceptable in these nations.

When I say "drive home", I want my car to map the route to my house, not call some random name on my call list like my BMW does now.

Ah but infotainment systems are where the profit is. So that really tells you about the mindset of automakers. Example VW does not put an IRS on the new Jetta at the current price point specifically because they wanted to have a better integrated infotainment system. They only had a certain budget to work with to keep the price competitive. They determined that a decent infotainment system was more important than an independent rear suspension system. Obviously if there is not a price restriction its not as much as an issue. Never the less the profit made on these systems must be a pretty big percentage of overall vehicle profit.
