RUMOR MILL: Tesla Model Y SUV To Start At $40K - Who Should Worry?
The upcoming Tesla Model Y has yet to be officially revealed, but now we may have some new details to share. Do you believe a starting price of $40,000?

The Model Y rumormill is again churning and, though we can’t confirm any of these new details, it seems the Model Y won’t disappoint.

All that’s officially known of the Model Y is limited to the teaser above and some hints from Musk here and there.

According to Tesla, the Model Y will be largely based upon the Model 3. This means its cost to develop should be on the lower side, though that doesn’t imply a low price tag necessarily.

Who should worry? People who believe that headline. The model was to start at $35 K and the avg transaction price is $58 K. This, the Model Y (why indeed) will be $65 K plus.
I've noticed that nearly half the Autospies articles now com from insideEzvs.com.

Who should worry? Perhaps Tesla deposit holders. Remember that Tesla began taking Model 3 deposits on March 31, 2016, and at one time, Tesla claimed they had over 400,000 Model 3 orders. Here we are in 2019 and Tesla Motors still hasn't converted most of those orders to sales, and a huge percentage of those orders were cancelled by deposit-holders who lost the faith.

Also remember that the Model 3 was supposed to sell for $35,000, but almost 3 years after the announcement, that $35,000 vehicle is still not being made.

Also remember that Elon Musk recently stated publicly that Tesla Motors "almost didn't make it" in a recent financial quarter. He was referring to Tesla's ability to continue operating as a business. Yeah, they're that close to the line, even though The Tesla Faithful continue to believe in the stock, the company, and their products.

I think those rumors are too optimistic. My guess is $40k base, 200 mile range, AWD standard. $50k for 300 miles.

Given how popular the 3 is, the Y will only be more popular as SUVs are now dominating. Since most of it is based on the 3, the ramp should be much easier.

The 3 was promised for $35K an sells for $60K, the $40K Y will be $70K.

Does it matter what it costs? It's going to sell like pancakes anyway.

If the Model Y is built in China first, there's a good chance the US buyers will see all variants at roughly the same time. With the Model 3 already reaching 10K per week production rate, battery pack price will probably reach close to $100/kW that will make the Model Y price competitive with similar CUVs. Add significant savings in fuel and maintenance cost, it will be another home run and will catapult $TSLA over $100B market cap by end of 2020.

Elon's pyramid financial sleight of hand depends on the false premise of continuing rapid growth. That lie is already unraveling.

Frankly I don't think there is any worry among BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes etc. They have a lot more money behind them to develop a 40K SUV. Another point. We have yet to see a 35K model 3 even though it has been promised by Musk over and over. Personal opinion. I am more prone to believe Volkswagen with their 23 to 24 K EV vehicle than I am with Tesla's 40K SUV. Last point. I have been reading on line and seeing a bunch of video on peoples complaints about Tesla quality issues with the Model 3-Misalligned body panels, scratches in paint, lots of "orange peel" as well. A lot of people have had to get their new cars repaired at Tesla centers to bring them up to par. Sounds worse then Alfa Romeo's problems.
