Tesla's Model 3 Embarrasses The Establishment By Becoming The Best Selling Premium Car In First Full Year

Tesla’s Model 3 is now officially the best-selling premium vehicle in the US during its first full year of production after all the industry sales numbers for 2018 have come in.

When Tesla announced its record deliveries of 90,700 cars during Q4 last week, the automaker first made the claim:

“Additionally, 2018 was the first time in decades that an American car – the Model 3 – was the best-selling premium vehicle in the U.S. for the full year, with U.S. sales of Model 3 roughly double those of the runner up.”

With the $7500 credit disappearing, I wonder how Telsa will do. I am pulling for them even though I'm not buying one.

Read the headline again. Start shorting Tesla if you really believe that...

Not a fan of the model 3 but I appreciate the pressure it’s putting on the competition to step up, this should only push your fave to go harder so more power to em.

That 7500 isn’t too much more than the cash thrown on the hood by most manufacturers/dealers to move models and make numbers

Lol last I checked DM was shuttering plants, Ford was cancelling sedans, their premium maker Lincoln came in last place in 2018, and Chrysler...well is Chrysler, so Tesla isn’t the only one who’s books look a little weak...jussayin

Also I believe GM just hit their 200,000+ EV threshold, they got the same incentives as Tesla... as did all the other manufacturers.

GM did NOT get all the same incentives as Tesla. Saying that is a bold-faced lie.

LOL u do realize you are only making Tesla look better...the fact that a “non premium” brand can charge premium prices and outsell premium makes kinda makes the industry look like a joke.

So keep telling yourself it’s not premium while consumers hand “premium checks” over LOL

Mazda3 interior puts Tesla 3 to shame, for 40% of the price.
The $7500 cash on the hood you mention should not come from taxpayers, but from the manufacturer like everyone else.

When the Mazda 3 or any Mazda products are as efficient as a model 3, we can talk tax credits, until then let Mazda continue putting cash on the hood and selling to rental fleets to make numbers.

Don’t you get it Tesla doesn’t have to put cash on the hood because they have a product ppl want.... Mazda just like lost manufacturers put cash on the hood for survival and to save their asses LOL

I am not a Tesla fan, but always admire their success. Model 3 is not considered as premium car, sorry. If Jaguar car build a better SUV than a Tesla, MB< BMW and Toyota will not watch the show.

This is from google about digital watches

"In 1972, Hamilton introduced the world's first commercial electronic digital wristwatch. It retailed for the pricey sum of $2,100, which amounts to over $12,000 today. However, by the end of the 1970s, digital watches would regularly retail for under $10 a piece"

I think these Electric cars will have the same fate

Lol the difference, that Hamilton watch could never boast being a best seller and other watch makers weren’t jumping on the digital watch bandwagon like other manufacturers are jumping on the electric car wagon.

Lol if you think electric cars will die, in 10 years or less you will be betting half the industry will die as some manufacturers are getting rid of combustion engines altogether.

And again wether you or anybody else believes Tesla is premium or not, ppl are buying them at premium prices and more quickly than some traditional premium makes.

Every time a luxury manufacturer loses a consumer that just paid 40-60, 80-100k for a Tesla, u better believe executives are paying attention and will be fired if they simply turn the other cheek and set Tesla’s not premium because guesss what, they just lost a premium client

If you want to know what kind of "premium" car Tesla is:

1. Pick an actual Tesla being sold today. Note the price.

2. Compare it to a similarly priced BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche. Compare fit, finish, and drive.

Tesla does excels at hype, though.

You've obviously never driven a Model 3. Drives just as nice as any 3 series or C Class if not better - with much stronger acceleration. Exterior fit and finish still needs work but interiors are class competitive.

Don't forget that owners LOVE their cars. MB and BMW wish there was so much enthusiasm among their clients.

As someone who has had a rental BMW 3-series and Audi A4 many, many times... there is not one thing about either car that I prefer over the Model 3. Performance, comfort, tech, safety, and utility are all better on the Model 3. Even coming from the Model S the only two things I really miss are the epic hatchback trunk very useful for hauling big/many items and the active air suspension.

I absolutely do not comprehend why some people seem to have a personal hatred for Tesla, it's almost like the company killed their mother.

To these I say "Sorry bub, the ICE days you are so comfortable with is slowing coming to an end, I know you hate Elon for it and you can't deal with things outside of your comfort zones, which is why there is Darwin" Good bye dinosaurs!

LOL, premium or not, they are taking PREMIUM CLIENTS away from premium makes lol, the bank doesn’t care if Tesla is premium or not, neither does your fave’s lenders/bills/cost, if Tesla keeps dipping into your fave premium brands client base eventually execs will say ok we have a problem

The Model 3 destroys the Camry across every metric, but I don't think they are in the same price class. Think the Camry tops out at $30k or so.
