#NAIAS: 2020 Supra Or 2019 Corvette, Which One Gets Your Bank Roll?

#NAIAS: 2020 Supra Or 2019 Corvette, Which One Gets Your Bank Roll?
So here we are, the much heralded 2020 Toyota Supra is FINALLY a reality and posts some pretty impressive numbers. Featuring a 335 HP BMW 3.0 liter inline-six, an 8 speed automatic transmission and weighing in at 3480 lbs. It can make the run from 0-60 in just 4.1 seconds. But this all comes at a price.

With a base price of $50,920 the Supra is treading into some deep waters. Step up to the 3.0 Premium trim level and you are at $54,920 and you gain Apple CarPlay and a JBL sound system to boot.

Step up again to the limited Launch Edition and you are sitting at $56,180 and no performance increase.

While this all compares pretty well against the Supra’s sibling the BMW Z4 which commands nearly $65,695, but also comes with 382 HP. Those extra ponies are worth something right? BTW the Z4 is estimated to run 0-60 in about 3.9 seconds. Most can agree the Supra is the better deal.

But we can’t help but wonder if the is a better bargain out there for your buck… Actually it turns out there might be.

Take a run over to Chevrolet and take a look at the base Corvette 1LT with 455 HP with a Bose audio system standard. You also gat a 7 speed rev matching manual transmission for the purist in you. That 0-60 run now takes you just 3.7 seconds and it all comes in at $56,995 with destination charges.

So a top line Supra is essentially the same price as the faster 1LT Corvette? You can make all of the arguments you want, but simply put the new Supra only comes one way performance wise. Take on an impromptu stop light challenge with a base Corvette and you are history. Also if you are really into performance the Corvette will take you to levels this Supra can only dream of just by checking off the option boxes.

Still think that new Supra is the best bang for your buck?

Corvette without a second thought. Looks better. Performs better.

I can't imagine a comparison that the Supra would win.

While the C7 is way more appealing, it will be interesting to see who wins head to head comparison tests between the Supra and Z4 in enthusiasts magazine reviews?

I'd go with the Supra...and a tune. I had a 335 Conv with a $500 JB4 ecu tune which added about 100hp and 140 lbft of tq with 0 issues.

Would depend on age of buyer. Most younger buyers under 40 or so would buy the supra, while older would buy the corvette.

Nah. It will be more like the flavor of the next 10 minutes for the Supra.

At the end of the day the Corvette is faster and better looking. It likely handles better.
I like the Supra, but it is $10 K to rear in this segment.

Oh you were being kind to the Supra.

Vette is a monster performer and reasonably priced for the performance. Supra is overpriced and the design is already dated.

Yes, I was being kind to the Supra. The Vette is the better car and at the end of its product cycle.

Supra looks better and will out perform the Corvette on the track. Corvette will still be popular with gray or no hair men.

Those are the words of someone who has never been to the track, much less ever driven hot laps. The Corvette will carry more speed through a corner than a Z4 and run away and high on the straights.
