Infiniti Declares Mercedes Based QX30 A Dud - Will Replace With Japanese Designed Crossover

8,101. That’s how many QX30 compact crossovers Infiniti sold last year in the United States, representing a massive decrease of 42.5 percent compared to 2017. By comparison, the Mercedes GLA upon which the model is heavily based accumulated sales of 9,337 units just in the last four months of the year. So, what went wrong with the Infiniti-badged version?

Well, the QX30 is “not a very successful product.” These aren’t our words, but the words of Infiniti's new president. In an interview this week with Motor Authority at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Christian Meunier announced a successor for the QX30 is planned, but it won’t be linked to Mercedes and its GLA anymore: “It will be replaced in the future by an all-Infiniti platform.”

I just don’t think that with the QX30, the value wasn’t there and the Infiniti badge just doesn’t have the same appeal as the a Big Four or even Acura (for SUVs).
Maybe the problem starts with Nissan as a brand. I see rabid Honda and Toyota fans and it seems like Nissan just takes their leftovers who are looking for the cheapest price. They may lack brand loyalty to step up into an Infiniti.
The other reality is that the QX30 is a niche product, not being as practical as most would want in an SUV like the XC40, X1 and Q3. I think it’s even shorter and the drive position is lower than the GLA. It definitely looks and feels more cramped and bathtubby than the GLA. I’ve seen a bunch on the road and they look no taller than your daily Corolla or Civic. Mercedes and BMW do better with niche products like the GLA and X2 due to their history and prestige.

no additional engine options, very basic options list. look at Infiniti's top sedan & SUV, both are rather old & offer no advances in recent tech. the Q80, QX70, QX80 had been languishing & basically left far behind by other market competitors.

Shared platform is not the issue. The brand perception is.

Put a LEXUS badge and it will sell. NO one is buying Infiniti cars.

Nissan need to stick to what they know. The GT-R was revolutionary but then there was no meaningful updates. the M56x was special but no updates or revisions. the FX50S was great but no updates or meaningful revisions. we're basically just seeing the QX50 & how that LONG awaited design language comes together but then they pull some BS electric vehicle concept.

Infiniti brand needs a serious kick in the azz. A lot of years wasted.

Actually the qx50 and qx60 don’t sell what they really should be selling. In the very hotly competitive compact SUV market the qx50 is far below almost everyone else. The new RDX and new QX50 were released at almost the same times in June. Since then RDX sales averaged over 6k units per month while the QX50 didn’t even average 3k units per month. The Q5, GLC, X3, and NX all average between 5k and 6k units per month.
The QX60 does better but is still behind its main rivals the MDX and RX. It had a tremendous December but probably because dealers were giving it away.

So Nissan doesn't like the Renault Megane filtered through Mercedes and dumbed down for Infiniti. So now they are just going to do an Infiniti off the Megane directly? Because that is what is happening here.

Q70 is another example of how to let a car have a long long death
