97 Year Old Duke of Edinburgh Crashes His Land Rover In The UK
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has been involved in a crash near the Queen's Sandringham estate in the UK. The 97-year old was driving a Land Rover Freelander when he collided with a Kia at an intersection, causing the SUV to roll over and land on its side.

Remarkably, the 97-year old regent walked away from the crash unhurt, but was "obviously shaken.” Reports suggest he told police he was blinded by the sun before the accident happened.

No he just wanted a new Land Rover, times must be hard over at the Royals when the Duke drives a pathetic Freelander....

I bet he’s at the dealership begging the queen to sign right now

Most would assume 97 is a bit old to be still driving. After you pass 80, you get tested each and every year to keep your license. I don't think Prince Phillip gets a pass in that regard.

Why was he driving at all. Given who he is, why isn't he in a limo?

I have no idea. Around the castle grounds and the 1,000's of acres at their country estates with nothing to run into, it may be fine. But on public roads it is odd. He may still be driving as there is nobody willing to step up and tell him no.

Apparently he was not even wearing a seatbelt. The police chatted with him about that. I thought it might get a fine or lose some points. Amazing he did not get hurt rolling his SUV.

Apparently the Queen and he still drive. The difference is she does not drive on public roads, only on her estates. I have a feeling either the Prime Minister or Prince Charles is going to now tell him off.

Prince Charles will encourage him to keep driving and always take "Mummie" along.

I had the US version of a Land Rover Freelander for a short while.

We nicknamed it the "Freeloader" because it never worked.
