2019 Jaguar I-Pace Vs. 2018 Tesla Model X: Who Gets It Right In This EV Battle?

2019 Jaguar I-Pace Vs. 2018 Tesla Model X: Who Gets It Right In This EV Battle?

Battery-electric vehicles and crossovers are the Hansels of the automotive landscape. To paraphrase Mugatu: “They’re so hot right now.”

Predictably, automakers are now combining the emissions-free powertrain technology with the popular and versatile body style. While mainstream models such as the Chevrolet Bolt and Kia Soul EV attempt to appeal to the masses by way of sub-$40,000 starting prices, these vehicles lack the style and luxury-lined cabins of pricier electric crossovers from marques such as Tesla and Jaguar.

I'd rather gamble on the so-so reliability of a Jaguar than the abysmal reliability of a Tesla.

Well, apparently the sales dominance of the Jaguar over its somewhat pricier base Model X has decided the issue - I Pace arrival in Holland spells disaster for Tesla's Model S and X, outselling them by 2 to 1 and 4 to 1 and forcing a 40% decline in Tesla sales in EV-friendly Norway. An obviously shocked and desperate ELon Musk has announced the discontinuance of the base Model S and X, plus a reduction in his workforce. The I Pace has won over 20 major awards at this point and has been recommended over the Tesla X by virtually every reviewer. And the tax credits mean a $3750 price advantage now and a $7500 advantage come June 1. As bad as all this is for Tesla, Porsche threw salt on Tesla's many wounds by announcing that the first year's production of their Taycan (which will be larger than production of the Model S) has been completely sold out.

This is totally apples to oranges though as the Jaguar and the Tesla are two totally different size classes.

In Holland and Norway LOLOLOL!. Call your local Jag dealer. There isn't even a waiting list to buy one. Yes, it's good looking but it's TINY. No one is gonna beat Tesla in electric for the foreseeable future. And you'd better believe it.

Agent001, before you laugh and drink more Tesla Kool-aid, the Tesla tax credits were reduced or eliminated in thos two countries which is happening in the US now. Also, Tesla inventories are building now too.

The iPace is barely larger than a Model 3... this isn't really a Model X competitor. It is in the same class as the Model Y, which is smart for Jaguar since this seems to be the hot segment these days.
