2019 Chevrolet Silverado Real World MPG With 4 Cylinder Disappoints

You’ve read no shortage of commentary about General Motors’ new truck engine on these digital pages — from the 2.7-liter four-cylinder‘s impressive on-paper power figures (310 hp, 348 lb-ft), to the continuing rivalry between GM and Ford, to the rather slim fuel economy gap separating it from its eight-cylinder stablemates. You’ve also read about GM’s reluctance to mention that the engine is, in fact, a four-cylinder.

Now, two real-world tests prove that your mileage may indeed vary — and 2.7 Turbo owners might not be happy with the results.

Car and Driver claims its recent test of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado RST double cab 4×4 left them wanting more. More MPGs, that is. In a run through a 200-mile, 75 mph highway course, the 2.7-liter pickup not only fell below the vehicle’s EPA rating, it also returned worse fuel economy than a similar model equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 performing the same test.

Should've sourced 3.0T engines from German

I dont see to many big pickups going 75mph or faster too often. They're usually driven at speeds ranging 55-65mph - depending on road conditions & loading. The C/D test was on the extreme side I think. For the sole purpose of forcing the RST trim to return lower consumption ratings.

Chevy should at least put chrome stacks on both sides of the cab. I know that I would feel better driving a 4cyl truck with stacks. Neutral drop anyone?

Surprise surprise.

These turbo engines are designed to get around MPG laws, but like the Ecoboost before it, the technology just doesn't work.

Customers routinely got more MPG in the Fusion 2.5 than in the 1.5T. The same was true of the 3.7 Mustang vs the 2.3T. Same power, but the 3.7 easily beat the turbo at the pump.

I own 2016 Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost premium n get 32 mpg going 70+ on highway n it beats my old GT 0-60...
What's not to like about Ecoboost... It works n Ford's 2.7 v6 is F150 most popular engine... Great power n economy!!

Requiring premium in a turbo also kills the miles per dollar.
