Bugatti Claims It Has No Intention Of Falling Into The SUV Rut

Very few automakers have resisted the temptation of not adding an SUV to their lineups, and you probably only need just the fingers from one hand to count them all. Much like McLaren has reiterated it won’t be going down the SUV road, Bugatti is now confirming there are no plans to come out with a high-riding model. The reveal was made by company president Stephan Winkelmann in an article published on the official Bugatti site.

While the said article talks about what Bugatti was able to accomplish in 2018 and what lies ahead for 2019 when the Molsheim brand is celebrating its 110th anniversary, at the very end of the article, Stephan Winkelmann briefly mentions SUVs. Here is what the former Lamborghini and Audi Sport boss had to say:

Yeah, right.

"Platform Cost Amortization" is one of the guiding principles of the VW Group so if the numbers work, Bugatti will definitely roll out a bespoke SUV.

I would suspect that the way they launch it, is as a bespoke, seemingly "custom" (but really mass-produced) vehicle - sort of like when Aston Martin launched the beautiful 4-door Taraf limosine a few years ago to the middle east - and then the rollout of the Bugatti SUV just grows from there.

The Bugatti SUV could (obviously) be launched as the "Royale" and it would be a stretched version of the Bentayga. The only way the offering would work is if it was large and long and highly stylized.

We will see I guess.

It will likely be a large and long, high-riding sedan. The Bugatti Type 41 Royale was basically an over-sized, high-riding sedan/coupe so building a bruiser car on an SUV chassis is a no-brainer.

Lol bottom line, Bugatti has no intent of making an SUV...until Volkswagen says Bugatti....you are making an SUV

VW has also told Bugatti they have to be profitable as well. If they can't do that they may not be around anyway.

They are following Ferrari. We will "not" make an SUV. It will be a high riding vehicle that for all intensive purposes is an SUV. I am not sure that the VW platform will be right for a vehicle from this brand. It will need to be quite grand like the Rolls Cullinan.

The Cullinan looks like a fancy electrician's van or a London Morris Taxi. It needs to be long and massive.

Hope this is true. So tired of all the soccer mom crossovers parking in two spots and weaving all over the road.

if VW wants to effectively kill the uber-ultra-luxury brand, then make a Touareg/Cayenne-based SUV.

It's like politicians, you are never sure that it's true until they start denying it.
