I love the hipsters who spend $150K on a 500 square foot wooden box mounted on a trailer that they call a tiny home. Make no mention that there are places--like here--where $150K will buy you 1500-1800 sq ft of NEW starter home and that for a fraction of that $150K you can buy a travel trailer that has the same square footage and is 100% better made.

I grew up in trailers and don't want anything on wheels, but...

My wife is the antithesis of tiny home. Our house was about 2750 sq ft, built in the early 1960s, and totally MCM. She wanted a big family so that meant adding on a wing with 4 bedrooms and two baths (each bedroom shares a bathroom with another bedroom) that had to appear as if it was an original part of the house. So we're 4000 ish sq ft.

That car garage I wanted had to be designed with a facade that looked 1960 MCM.

I kid you not, there was a proposal in San Fransico City Council(spelling correct, don't get your panties twisted)to provide the homeless with plasticized cardboard boxes so when they sleep in them, they would not fall apart during a rain.

Ours isn't an Eichler, but the architect paralleled it. In our house you enter from the front door into an indoor patio/garden/cement koi pond/rock waterfall and follow a short meandering path to a second front door. This is all under a high beamed ceiling. Past the second door is a conversation pit behind that is a kitchen behind that is the dining room and behind that is the living room. The entire space is wide open like a warehouse. The space ends with a glass wall from floor to vaulted roof. The colors are 100% early 60s Danish Modern. From the glass wall you can see the outdoor kitchen, dining area under a pergola, and the pool. The initial bedrooms were in an angled wing to the right upon entry and now the boys are housed in a mirror-image wing on the left side of the house. My car garage is a metal building, but from the front of the property it looks like an MCM guest house.

It has some odd features that were trendy in the day. The washer and dryer are in the kitchen. When we added the new wing, we built a laundry room. The washer and dryer in the kitchen are from about 1962 and they are operational, but mostly for looks. They are turquoise GE units. The blender drive is built into the kitchen counter top that is "genuine formica". The master bathroom has a shower and a Japanese tub that you immerse into up to your shoulders. It's like a vertical tub bath.

It was my father-in-law's attorney's house and my wife spent a lot of time there growing up. The guy and his wife decided to move to the coast and my father-in-law bought it and gave it to us. We've spent a lot of money on repairs and upgrades that have been expensive because we are committed to keeping the look intact.

The house has no garage, just a carport and I make sure the two spots are always a period correct car. At the moment a bullet Bird and an Interceptor.

You can imagine the deafening noise that 5 boys under the age of 10 can make in that space. Jed, our inherited teenager, keep music flowing to his ears and drowns it all out.

Makes no difference really. The better question is why are the homeless tolerated? I suspect they are proof to the Socialists that the destruction of the economy is going as planned or it gives them something to pretend their care about.
