SPIED! FIRST Spy Shots Of The REFRESHED Mercedes-Benz E-Class — What TWEAKS Do YOU Want To See?
Having driven the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class, I have to say it's an incredibly impressive vehicle. You just have to be careful with how you option it. Before you know it you're edging $90,000 and you're bank account is sure to be hurting.

To me, it's the mid-size luxury sedan to have right now. And the coupe and convertible variants are equally as impressive.

But now that it's been out for a couple years and we have an all-new Audi A6 and all-new BMW 5-Series, its time for the three-pointed start to continue upping the ante. That's what this refresh will help do.

From the images we're seeing, it appears that the simply items will be swapped out. This includes headlights, taillights, perhaps a new front grille treatment and front/rear clips.

Being that the you, our Spies, are the tastemakers, however, we turn to you: What do YOU believe Mercedes-Benz needs to tweak with the E-Class for it to maintain its presence in the mid-size luxury class?

I don't like the droopy tail or the rise and fall of the lower edge of the DLO. I doubt any of that will change.

Lol the rear end’s shape of Benz sedans pays homage to the legendary 540k’s rear and separates it from anything else on the market.

In fact the only other sedans on the market with similarly angled rears to the S is the Bentley and Rolls while all others have a traditional standard squared off look.

I don't care what it pays homage to, the rear ends of current MBs look like they sh*t their pants.

@Dexter 1 correct: "..."the rear ends of current MBs look like they sh*t their pants."

@Car4Life As for this somehow being an homage to the 540K...you're asserting that a car with buggy fenders is the inspiration? I think not.

Lol well survey and SALES says the majority of consumers want the “sh*t your pants” look! So grab some toilet paper and keep it pushing!

I love the rear end and the fact that it doesn’t look like every other sedan out there

Get rid of the 4 cylinder at this price point. Make the straight six standard. I have a GLE and a C300, the E class has the same engine as my C300

More power would be great but to my knowledge the only midsize lux model that offers a 6 cylinder for the base model in the US is the Lexus GS which has piss poor sales...

Correction Lexus GS Base comes with 4 cylinder too

Oh wait Audi A6 comes standard with 6 for a $5k premium over the E and 5 and barely sales any per month...unfortunately the market hasn’t priorities the 6 cylinder like auto enthusiast

Completely agree, the 4 is buzzy, underpowered and frankly it doesn't belong in an E Class. (C4L-regardless of how many they sell, its just not a good motor). It get its work done but the previous 3.5 6cyl was smooth as butter. I'd much prefer that normally aspirated mill than any turbo 4 or turbo 6. Well, I much prefer the previous E to this stretched C as well.

Just as you say regardless of sales....I can say regardless of your opinion....in my opinion the 4 cylinder is well suited for the C and GLC and while the enthusiast in me always wants more power, the gf finds her e 300 satisfyingly equipped, so next

Why the refresh?
The new generation E class was just released only 2 years ago (2017).
The new E class is a sensational success.

If you had a clue skytop (which you usually don't), the W213 came out in April 2016, therefore a facelift in 2020 for MY 2021 is on time. That isn't rocket science, quite easy to figure out if you have a working brain and an internet connection.

The Lexus ES comes only with a 6 cyl.

Can they make the refreshed E-Class NOT look like a C-Class that somebody just enlarged to 120%?

Unless you look really closely, its virtually impossible to tell if somebody has a $50,000 C-Class or a $70,000 E-Class.

Even side by side - its like MB designed the E-Class on a Xerox machine and just hit "englarge" from a C-Class.

The C-Class is actually better looking IMO - its better proportioned.

Agree, one really needs to inspect the tail end to see if there is an E or C on it. While the E is bigger its not by much "visually" and when they both say C300 or E300 its even harder... that pathetic 4 needs to go...

sedans are dying. who cares? mercedes 'styling' is shit. yes like the other germans they want their cars to look a like, but merc needs a new design direction

I think the MB styling and easily identifiable as a MB. However, unless you see the E on the trunk lid it looks just like the C-Class.

As usual you guys are behind everyone else. These are NOT the "FIRST" spy shots of the updated W213. I've been seeing these facelift W213 spy shots since October of last year.

Like usual, you've dropped the ball.

You guys prefer to post silly fluff or clickbait pieces, to round up the trolls. Not the "spies" in the least. Far from your W221 Leak days in 2002.

I wish they would retain the double DRL design. Leave that single upside down check mark to the CLS and A class. The taillights definitely could use a bit more presence. Definitely put a more refined and more powerful 4 in but definitely keep the 4 to keep the price point.

A Mercedes looks like a Mercedes, so they aren't going to move far from the current design language in the refresh. I assume it will be a long time before one can tell a C from an E with a quick glance. Wish it were otherwise, but...

I do wish they would offer the extra sound proofing in the coupe as they do in the sedan. To me, the reason to buy an E over a C would only be a sense of greater refinement. Thus, an E400 (6 cylinder) coupe with some extra attention to NVH would be something I'd consider.
