Senate Floats Bill To Tax Unionized Corporations Less Money

Senate Floats Bill To Tax Unionized Corporations Less Money
Two influential Senate Democrats, in the wake of General Motors' plans to potentially idle four U.S. plants, want to offer incentives to U.S. corporations that invest in American workers and resist moving factories overseas.

On Friday, Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Richard Durbin of Illinois introduced legislation that would give tax credits to companies that provide higher wages and deeper benefit plans. Big companies that don't pay well would get hit with a levy.

Why they still breathing? You'd think that with all the hot air coming out they'd suffocate themselves.

Although I think the idea in the article above has no value, Americans in general have to shake their historical hatred of taxes. The nation is 22 Trillion dollars in debt. State sales tax and an national VAT tax will help right the ship. Balanced budgets will help too. Everyone gets Universal Healthcare and your property tax bill will be 1/3 to 1/4 what it is now. "Sin" taxes on gas, smokes, beer, wine, spirits, pot will only bug those who indulge... and bring in billions. There is a better way.... Hold your nose and step forth.

No, we need smaller Govt, less intrusion in our lives, and less power in DC. We need LESS SPENDING not more taxes... As all they've done since I was born is spend more and grow govt, lets try doing the opposite and see what happens... I won't hold my breath...

I think Canadians should stick to solving Canadian issues(high taxes, immigration, antiquated military equipment, unemployment, household debt, etc) and be content that its southern neighbor has an arm forces to protect them, accounts for 20% of their GNP, pays for R&D that supports their low drug prices, etc

The hatred of taxes is healthy. The fact is that the USA needs to decimate spending. Easy to do:

No public assistance of any kind to non-citizens. No welfare to people who have not paid in. Welfare is a once-in-a-lifetime "gift" for 2 years with mandatory drug testing. Delete funding for PBS, NPR, and the arts. Stop all foreign aide that does not result in the USA getting collateral. And so on. It would be astoundingly easy to reduce the budget 30%.

You want lower taxes? fine. Then remove all the tax breaks and deductions. Put a low flat tax on gross income. Let see how the haters come out of the woods.

I'm 100% in favor of an income flat tax no deductions of any kind, not kids, not mortgages, not business losses, not for charity, nothing...a straight % from every person, business, non-profits (they have a LOT of income money), and churches. Furthermore that % should be the current LOWEST % bracket amount.

As a Canadian myself I couldn't agree more with your statement above in it's entirety. CommyComments is your typical Toronto Libtard elitist with SDS (Small Dick Syndrome) whom feel that we are better than than the US ( we aren't by a long shot) and feel the need to constantly bash the US, Trump and the American way of life. I do comment myself on occasion but I also lived in Florida for 14 years and consider myself part yankee and have a daughter in the US Army.

Cana-duh was conservative up until the last election where we got Prime Minister Mohammed Trudeau a terrorist loving, American-hating, spoiled trust fund moron whose God/boss is George Soros and doesn't believe in borders or a national identity. Can we please trade for Trump?

Matt, you got me curious, so I went hunting for facts. Current annual funding for:

Corporation for Public Broadcasting: $445MM (2018)

National Endowment for the Arts & National Endowment for the Humanities: $296MM (2017)

Foreign Aid (State Department and USAID): $50.1 billion, regardless of whether we get anything out of it.

Welfare budget (13 programs such as SNAP, WIC, etc., plus Medicaid): $729B (2017), regardless of citizenship or residency status.

So that totals $779.841 billion. Per TheBudget.com, "In February 2018, President Trump released his budget proposal for fiscal year 2019. Under his proposal, the federal budget would be $4.407 trillion. The U.S. government estimates it will receive $3.422 trillion in revenue, creating a $985 billion deficit for October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019."

So, if we prevent our kids from watching educational TV, let the poor people starve, and let the s%!&hole countries fend for themselves, we can reduce the Federal budget under Pres. Trump to $3.627 trillion and bring the annual federal deficit for 2019 to $205.159 billion. Which gets added to the total national debt of $21.516 trillion (3Q 2018).

I think you need to cut just an itsy bitsy bit more if you don't want to raise anyone's taxes.

You went looking for "facts" but you also underreported the "data" when you posted it. Welfare is an umbrella term for a number of different financial pots so your $728B number is only a portion of it, but you know that. Likewise, foreign aid money flows out of our budged in more ways that the $50.1B you quote, but you know that TOO. As the Fascist-Socialist Liberal that you have shown yourself to be in repeated posts on this forum, you would likely advocate increasing taxes because all people like yourself and you buddy CanadianComments believe that you can tax your way to prosperity. I especially loved your bullsh!t, quivering lip "...if we prevent our kids from watching educational TV, let the poor people starve..." #GMAFB because I seriously doubt you care about either, but as the Liberal you are, you want state controlled media at all cost. The fact is that the US budget could be balanced easily were it not for Liberals who want to enslave the poor on the drug of social programs and then brainwash those people to believe they are victims and only the DemonRats can save them. Do you not get headaches from being so moronic?

You start reducing the budget deficits by eliminating automatic increases in departmental budgets each year. Then you hire Jack Welsh to go through the federal bureaucracy and start cutting wasteful unneeded programs and departments.
