Honda Prices New Passport Higher Than Larger Pilot

Honda is reviving the Passport after a 17 year absence and automaker has confirmed the model will carry a base price of $31,990.

While that’s $540 more than the 2019 Pilot, the Passport eschews a traditional base model and instead begins with a generously equipped Sport variant. According to Honda officials, this was done because the company believes buyers will be relatively affluent and don’t want a stripped down crossover.

the Passport is the same size as the Pilot in general.

Just an honest observation.

The motor1 site did a (visual) side-by-side comparison recently. The Passport is basically the 5-seater variant thats oriented towards the "active lifestyle" I guess. It could easily have been named - Honda Pilot - Passport Edition as it's basically a set of trim options.

It's a reasonable technical exercise that shows how changing many key features & details actually changes the overall perception of the same vehicle. A lesson in pure subjectivity.

No surprise, it is based on the Pilot. Shortened and restyled to look rugged, plus added features that adds to the cost.

The Honda Passport is going to sell as quickly as a Trump Condo to a bunch of Russians with cash to park someplace far from Moscow.

The Honda Passport is going to sell as quickly as free welfare incentives are snatched up by illegal "si se puede" aliens.

I'm not sure how off-road worthy the thing is with 20" wheels/tires. 18" wheels/tires would have been more appropriate. The whole thing smacks of lifestyle image marketing. It's nothing more than a Pilot without the 3rd row. Ground clearance is meh. AWD system is meh, being front biased. Push button transmission gear selector instead of a traditional shifter is a big minus. But I'm sure Honda will sell a ton of them to the masses.

This pile of garbage would destroy its suspension if if hit a pebble off road.

As Honda prices keep escalating higher and higher, the Mercedes, Audi and BMW's are starting to look competitive and a good deal better than a Honda.

Lol. So for the price of an Elite Passport you can get a nicely equipped X1, GLA or Q3. I that really a “good deal” for the Germans? The Passport had twice the space and probably twice the reliability.

cidflekken: I'm assuming the Passport (nor the Pilot) are not luxury vehicles. Of course, you're going to pay more for a similarly sized luxury vehicle. Or for same money as the BMW/M-B/Audi you mentioned - you can get larger, better-equipped mainstream vehicles like the Elite trim Passport. That's always been the consumer trade-off.
