Genesis Decides To Walk Before Running - No Performance Brand In The Near Future
AMG turned into Mercedes-AMG. And then, there’s also AMG-Line and not-exactly-AMG models such as the A 35, C 43, and E 53. Genesis, on the other hand, doesn’t want to dilute its brand by setting up a performance division which might be lessened further down the road.

When asked about a performance-oriented G70, Manfred Fitzgerald made it clear to Car & Driver that “we’re trying to set our base.” Marketer or not, a brand as young as Genesis has to establish the basics before dreaming of throwing down the gauntlet.

At the present moment, the G70 can’t do better than the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that Kia uses in the Stinger GT. Be it rear- or all-wheel drive, this engine offers 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet. It might be down on power compared to the BMW M340i xDrive (382 hp), but the Lambda II T-GDI is torquier.

First thing first, change the logo, it reminds me of Chrysler every time I see it. G70 has a lot of potential though.

They need a coherent marketing plan to begin with. Marketing the G70 with M3-ish performance for a base 3 Series price would be a good move and then place the base G70 25% below the 3 Series would be wise. Names would be good as well

Genesis Inception etc.

Part of that number is that Hyundai decided to clear out stock so getting a new Genesis right now is hit or miss in some spots. That said, the ineffective marketing on this one is enormous.

why worry about a performance division when people arent buying sedans and coupes? its dumb. they need luxury crossovers.

Genesis has a lot to worry about and performance models is the least of those worries. The G70 certainly shows promise but I don’t see it overtaking any of the segment leaders any time soon.
