KIA Copies The FCA Super Bowl Style Ad. Did They Pull It Off Or Was It Forced?

KIA Copies The FCA Super Bowl Style Ad. Did They Pull It Off Or Was It Forced?
Kia rolled their Super Bowl Style ad 'Give It Everything' showcasing the new Telluride SUV trying to make you feel feelings.

As I watched it, it seemed like they copied the style and 'realness' of the past Chrysler/FCA ads of old.

So our question is did you see it the same way as us and did they pull it off. Did it move you like the Eminem ad did?

Or was is fake or contrived?

If you didn't see it, here it is...

AJC asked the question in their headline "Did Kia Insult Or Celebrate Rural Georgians?"

What say you Spies?

The Dodge version was better.

The residents of West Point, GA (who I assume were real people and not actors) had a patina of poverty and depression about them (on purpose?). Smiles and emotion were completely lacking - the spot was dour.

It was not a very flattering portrayal of West Point, GA. The tone was almost post-apocalyptic.

Contributing to the odd ad, it closed with a soccer-shuttle Kia Telluride going thru a stream, Land Rover Discovery style (though there was a very obvious legal disclaimer flashing across the screen "do not try this with your vehicle, vehicle modified with an aftermarket snorkle". Just bizarre.

If you know anything about rural Georgia you would know it's very impoverished and that Kia was a massive beacon of hope. I've been to Georgia a number of time to go car hunting and have seen quite a lot of the state. When people come from poverty--as I have--it is extremely hard to smile even when things are good.

I hear you on that, MD, but that nuance was not conveyed effectively in the commercial - IMO the commercial didn't really hang together whereas the Dodge commercial from prior years really did hang together.

There’s a reason it reminds people of the Dodge FCA Super Bowl ads and a bit of the Maserati Ghibli “Giants” ad. https://www.autonews.com/article/20170427/OEM02/170429847/kia-picks-saad-chehab-to-lead-marketing

Love it, get a thumbs down rating for pointing out the fact that the reason that the new Kia commercial reminds people of previous FCA commercials is because the person that was the head of marketing for FCA at the time is now the head of marketing at Kia.

Very effective in accomplishing its goal of making people aware that the Telluride is an American product.

So an iPhone sold in China - and made in China - is an 'American product?'

(It's really an American product being made and sold in China).

By the same token, the Telluride is NOT an 'American product.' It's a Korean product, being made and sold in America.

Yes, salaries are being paid to U.S. workers. But all revenues are heading to Korea.

I just don’t think this is nearly as effective. I don’t have the energy to go into detail but there are a lot of disconnects in a minute and forty seconds.
